As this winter storm continues to impact our area, I want the citizens of Lewis County to know that we are actively working behind the scenes to keep you, our first responders, and our road crews as safe as possible.

Lewis County remains under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, a decision made primarily to allow road crews and first responders to do their jobs safely and efficiently. Conditions are extremely hazardous, and we ask everyone to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary due to a personal emergency.

Our Emergency Management Director, road department, first responders, utility partners, and other stakeholders are closely monitoring conditions around the clock. Warming centers are on standby in case they are needed. If you have questions or need information, please contact Lewis County Emergency Management at 606-796-3464. In an emergency, always call 911.

We are currently under a Winter Storm Warning through noon Monday, with heavy mixed precipitation and possible ice accumulation. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect tonight, with dangerously cold wind chills expected to drop to below zero. An Extreme Cold Watch is also in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday morning. Please prepare now for the possibility of power outages and extended cold conditions.

I encourage everyone to remain weather aware, follow trusted local sources for updates, check on neighbors — especially the elderly or those without adequate heat — and lend a helping hand if you are able.

Your safety is our top priority. Please stay prepared, stay informed, and stay safe.

We are closely monitoring the approaching winter storm and working with Lewis County Emergency Management, the Road Department, and our first responders to ensure we are prepared for the conditions ahead.

Our crews are preparing now and will work throughout the storm to keep county roadways cleared and as safe as possible. However, we ask for patience and understanding, as heavy snow and ice can make travel extremely dangerous and may limit the rate of improvement.

The safety of our citizens is our top priority, including that of the first responders and road crews who will be out in these hazardous conditions. These men and women will be working long hours to serve our community, and we ask motorists to use caution, slow down, and avoid unnecessary travel when conditions worsen.

I urge all residents to take this storm seriously, be prepared at home with supplies, stay weather aware, and check on neighbors — especially the elderly and those who may need assistance. Your cooperation and preparedness are critical to keeping everyone safe.

Lewis County will continue to provide updates as conditions change. Please stay safe and look out for one another.

- Judge Executive George Sparks
