This is Emergency Telecommunicators Recognition Week, a time to acknowledge those who serve as the calming voice on the line during critical incidents.

Our E-911 dispatchers deserve much more recognition than they get considering their pivotal role as first responders.

EMS, Law Enforcement, Fire, Emergency Management and many others would be lost without the voice on the other end of the line. Dispatchers do so much more than answer a phone, they provide direction, comfort and a calm voice in hectic situations.

LCEMS would like to take this time to thank our Dispatchers at Lewis County E-911 for everything they do, day in and day out. You all Rock!

And you all definitely deserve more than a week of recognition for everything you provide to the citizens of Lewis County!

LCEMS would like to congratulate Brittany Smith, daughter of Capt. Tami Smith, on passing her NREMT exam today! Brittany has spent many months going through class, training, and ride time to get to this mile stone! Congratulations EMT Brittany Smith! From everybody at LCEMS we are proud of you and your accomplishment!

Pictured is Brittany and her mom Tami. During her ride time, Brittany was with Tami and Cody and got dispatched to a Cardiac Arrest. In the course of the call, because of their hard work, they regained ROSC on the patient. This picture was taken when they were presented with their ROSC Star Award.

❄️ WINTER WEATHER UPDATE – LEWIS COUNTY ❄️

Most of today’s snowfall is expected to occur from late morning through mid-afternoon, with conditions deteriorating as the day progresses.

Temperatures will remain near freezing, and snowfall rates are expected to increase around midday, likely resulting in slick, hazardous road conditions. Travel may become difficult, especially on hills, bridges, secondary roads, and shaded areas.

Winds of 8 to 12 mph, with higher gusts, will reduce visibility at times and keep cold wind chills throughout the day.

Residents are urged to remain weather aware, allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and use caution if driving is necessary. If possible, consider delaying travel during peak snowfall hours.

Road crews and emergency responders will monitor conditions and respond as needed.

Please continue to monitor official updates and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Stay safe, Lewis County.

Today was a very productive day for Lewis County EMS and many other EMS agencies in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Today was EMS on the Hill event in Frankfort organized by the Kentucky Ambulance Providers Association. This event was to bring to the forefront House Bills that effect EMS and could help, not only all the EMS agencies in the Commonwealth, but the citizens we serve as well.

LCEMS would like to thank Senator Robin Webb and Representative Patrick Flannery for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with us, listen to us and take our concerns and issues into account.

LCEMS would also like to thank Representative Raymer for introducing HB447 that would make great strides in Insurance Reimbursement.

WINTER STORM UPDATE

Lewis County and the City of Vanceburg have declared states of emergency ahead of a severe winter storm that will be impacting our area this weekend. Gov. Andy Beshear has also declared a statewide state of emergency as the system moves across Kentucky.

Judge Executive George Sparks and Emergency Management Director Dennis Brown have held multiple coordination meetings with local stakeholders, Kentucky Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service. We are actively securing resources, planning for assistance, and preparing for warming center activation if needed, while expanding our capabilities to keep roadways open and critical services operating.

This storm is expected to bring heavy snow, sleet, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages. Our first responders have added shifts and increased staffing and will be working around the clock to ensure rapid response to any emergencies.

At the state level, the Emergency Operations Center has been activated and will remain staffed at least through Monday. Kentucky Emergency Management and the Kentucky National Guard are prepared to assist local communities. Supplies, including water and generators, have been pre-positioned, and warming centers are being coordinated should conditions require activation.

Price-gouging laws are now in effect during the emergency. Any suspected overpricing of essential goods or services should be reported to the Office of the Attorney General.

We are closely monitoring weather conditions and are prepared to respond as needed. We ask for the public’s help by limiting travel unless absolutely necessary, allowing road crews and first responders the space they need to do their jobs, and checking on neighbors—especially the elderly and those without reliable heat.

Please stay weather-aware, make preparations now, take care of one another, and continue to watch for updates from Lewis County Emergency Management.

Today, we had our agency Christmas Party. It was a great time for all of us to get together and spend time together outside of the work setting.

In our line of work, we always depend on each other, especially on those bad calls, but it's at times like this when we can sit down and fellowship with one another on another level. We appreciate our Board of Directors for supplying and serving the food. It is a true sign that they care for each team member of LCEMS.

We would also like to thank you all, our community, for your support. We strive every day to provide the best service we can.

We would also like to thank our friends from Carter County EMS who sent a truck to cover our county so our crews could take a moment and enjoy the Christmas Party. We are very thankful for partners like Carter County.

From LCEMS Happy Holidays to you all!
