Today we gathered together for our End of Year Staff Banquet, a time to celebrate, reflect, and honor the incredible people who make VFL so special. 🌟

We recognized three amazing staff members who are retiring this year, as well as those who will be leaving VFL to begin their next adventure. While we will miss each of them dearly, we are so grateful for the impact they have made on our students, staff, and school community. ❤️

As part of today’s celebration, we shared the story “What Do You Do With a Chance?” and presented the book as a parting gift—a reminder to embrace new opportunities, take chances, and continue making a difference wherever life leads next. 📖✨

Thank you for the memories, the dedication, and the love you have poured into VFL. You will always be part of our school family! ❤️

🏀💙 A Special Day for Our 5th Graders and Retirees! 💙🏀

Today was full of fun, laughter, and memories as our 5th graders took on the staff in the annual 5th Grade vs. Staff Basketball Game! 🎉 From exciting plays to lots of cheering, everyone had a great time celebrating together.

We also ended the day with our heartfelt 5th grade clap out as students walked the halls one last time as elementary school students. 👏🎓 It was such a special moment as staff and younger students cheered them on and celebrated all they have accomplished. We also honored our 3 retirees in the clap out.

We are so proud of our 5th graders and can’t wait to see all the amazing things they will do next. Once a part of the VFL family, always a part of the VFL family! 💙✨

Today we celebrated our amazing 3rd–5th grade students with a fun-filled Block Party for all of their hard work during EOG testing! 🌟

Our students showed determination, focus, and used the strategies they’ve worked so hard on all year long. We are so proud of the effort they put in and the positive attitudes they showed throughout testing! 📚✨

Today was a well-deserved time to relax, have fun, and celebrate all they’ve accomplished together. Great job, students! 💙🎉

Young Authors

Young Authors is an art and writing contest sponsored by the Twin Rivers Reading Council and the NC Reading Association for students in grades K-12. State and local winners receive recognition and a ​published book with all the winning entries. The theme for the 2025-2026 Young Authors’ Project was “Educate, Advocate, and Empower.” Young authors were encouraged to share their own special stories. It could have been about the impact of a special experience, moment, story, or person in their life, and how that has impacted the way they see themselves. Authors were allowed to write prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction.
