What a morning at LAFD Fire Station 39! πŸš’πŸ₯ž SFVCMHC was proud to join the 818 Week Coalition for the Second Annual "Breakfast with the Brave," honoring the LAFD Valley Bureau heroes who protect our community every single day.

From pancakes and fire truck tours to Aztec dance performances, a pint-sized future firefighter meeting a very patient LAFD pony, and neighbors coming together across the Valley β€” this is community! πŸ’›

Thank you to the LAFD for your service, and to everyone who came out to say gracias. Since 1970, SFVCMHC has been proud to call the San Fernando Valley home.

August 31st was International Overdose Awareness Day

Prevention and recovery are possible when we combat stigmatization, promote treatment, celebrate recovery, and strengthen our collective efforts to prevent overdose deaths.

How to Recognize an Overdose:
Recognizing an overdose can be difficult. If you aren't sure, it is best to treat the situation like an overdose - you could save a life. Call 911 immediately. Administer naloxone, if it's available. Do not leave the person alone. Common signs of an overdose may include:
Β· Small, constricted "pinpoint pupils"
Β· Falling asleep or loss of consciousness
Β· Slow, weak, or no breathing
Β· Choking or gurgling sounds
Β· Limp body
Β· Cold and/or clammy skin
Β· Discolored skin (especially in lips and nails)

The substance use crisis in America has had a devastating impact on communities, families, and individuals. The Center offers substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services and can give those affected by addiction the best chance of finding long-term recovery and hope for the future.

August is National Wellness Month
Learn more: https://conta.cc/45DzILa
At San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., we are committed to supporting the wellness of our staff, clients, and community.

Wellness and self-care are not matters of selfishness or ego. Taking care of our own needs, on a consistent basis, leads to better mental health, greater productivity, and richer relationships with family, friends and professional colleagues.

We are living through challenging and stressful times. While this stress may feel overwhelming, there are things we can do to calm our bodies and brains.
- We can pay attention to how stress affects us to help us identify it early, decide if it is helping us, and work to manage it.
- We can be kind to ourselves.
- We can make time to do at least one thing that bring us joy every day.
- We can reach out to get support and learn more about managing stress.
We all have inner strengths and resilience that can help us deal with challenges and stress. Think about developing a plan just for you to help you manage stress.
