Join us for a relaxing summer evening of live music at Memorial Park this Sunday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM! Van Meter class of 2023 graduates Mason Drake & Gus Rosener will be be performing!

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, family, and friends and enjoy great music in the park. It's the perfect way to wrap up the weekend and connect with the community.

Looking forward to another fun season this fall!

Registration for Youth Flag Football is open!

This 5v5 flag football league follows the NFL Flag Football league format and rules. Flag football is great for both boys and girls as a way to introduce them to the game of football, build confidence, instill sportsmanship and assist with transition to the tackle format.

Our 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade leagues are partnered with the City of Van Meter this season!

The City of Van Meter is pleased to welcome our new City Administrator, Annette Ekhoff. We look forward to the leadership, experience, and fresh perspective she will bring to our organization and the continued growth of our community. Annette’s commitment to public service and collaboration will play an important role in advancing the City’s goals and enhancing the quality of life for our residents. We are excited for the opportunities ahead and encourage the community to extend a warm welcome as she begins her role. Annette is anticipated to start July 6th.

A short letter from your new City Administrator,

I am excited to introduce myself as your new City Administrator here in Van Meter. I bring twenty years of municipal government experience, including ten years in economic development and ten years in city administration.

Before my work in public service, I spent time as a paralegal with KONE and later worked in commercial lending with First Midwest Bank.

My husband Mark and I have three adult children, Jake, AJ and Maddi, who are spread across our wonderful country. We are thrilled to make Van Meter our home.

We look forward to meeting you and being part of all the great things ahead for this growing city.

Starting Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 7:00 AM:

F90 will be closed to thru traffic from Osage Avenue to R Avenue for a pavement widening and rehabilitation project beginning Tuesday, May 26th. Thru traffic should follow the marked detour route on Interstate 80 from 169 to R22 (Ute Avenue). Access will be maintained for residents within the project limits only.

Join us for an informal "coffee with the candidates" session. Come and go as you please, meet the finalists, and share your thoughts with your elected officials.

📅 Saturday, May 16th | 8:30–9:30 AM
📍 Van Meter School

Following the public session, a panel interview process will run from 9:30 AM to approximately 4:00 PM. Each candidate will be interviewed by a panel made up of council members, the mayor, city staff, and a pre selected group of community citizens.

At the end of the day, the Council will gather feedback from all participants and make their final decision.

We look forward to seeing you there! This is your community — your voice matters.

The city received 16 applications for our opening for City Administrator. Council narrowed this pool down to 6 candidates and after interviews has narrowed this pool down to four finalists.
