Last night was another powerful reminder of why our volunteers matter so much.
A huge THANK YOU to Crawford County SAR, Van Buren PD SAR, Sebastian County SAR, along with Washington County and Franklin County teams who stood ready on standby, willing to respond at a moment’s notice. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.
Calls started at 8:50 PM—just as most were settling in for the night—and didn’t wrap up until nearly 4:00 AM. While most were sleeping, these men and women stepped up to provide that extra layer of support to law enforcement. Because of that commitment… everyone went home safe.
Pigeon Creek Dr, Mountainburg
An 84-year-old male with dementia wandered from home. A drone was deployed for the initial search. During coordination with on-scene law enforcement, teams conducted a secondary search within 600 yards of the last known point. The patient was located injured but safe, behind a large propane tank—just 314 feet from the Incident Command location.
Hurricane Creek
A 41-year-old male off-roader/hiker walked down an ATV trail against advice and became lost. After sending a last known GPS location to a friend, CCSO and CCSAR responded by POV and then on foot. Sebastian County SAR and VBPD SAR also responded. The subject was located by a flashing headlamp, walked out, and was rescued without injury.
These are the moments that highlight the importance of trained, ready, and willing volunteers. We are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you.
Reminder: Crawford County utilizes Project Lifesaver for individuals with cognitive disorders. This program can significantly reduce search times and improve outcomes. For more information or to enroll a loved one, please contact Crawford County Emergency Management at 479-474-3260.

Be weather ready!
Please pay attention to your local meteorologist for the latest updates — we’ve got some sketchy weather moving in.
Always remember: outdoor warning sirens are just that — outdoor warning devices. Have multiple ways to receive alerts, especially while indoors. Stay safe and stay aware!

This past weekend, many members of the Crawford County Search & Rescue Team, along with members from Washington County and Sebastian County, participated in Wilderness First Aid training provided by Ozark Safety and Rescue Educators. These hands-on sessions help build critical skills and confidence for when the time comes to serve our communities.
Always remember, these trainings are made possible through your generous donations. Search & Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization that operates at the discretion of CCDEM. Thank you to everyone who continues to support, train, learn, and prepare.

CCDEM Update:
The train horn currently sounding in Van Buren is a result of today’s train derailment. Crews are aware of the issue and are actively working to find a way to shut it off.

🌨️ Crawford County Emergency Management Update 🌨️

As the snow and ice are slowly moving out, please continue to be mindful of the extreme cold we are still facing. 🥶

✅ Check on our elderly when possible— even a quick phone call can make a big difference.
✅ We are in for a rough few days, so please stay prepared and stay safe.
✅ Drip those faucets — it’s much cheaper to drip a little water than to replace busted pipes! 🚰❄️

And please remember our emergency personnel, road departments, and utility crews…
🚑🚒🚓🛻 They don’t get “snow days” or days off during weather like this.

💙 We are very thankful for every single one of them and all they do for Crawford County.
