The South Haven Fire Department has two immediate full-time positions available!

We offer a 48/96 schedule, competitive pay, 1977 PERF, medical, dental and vision coverage, paid time off, holiday and longevity pay, and a $1,200 annual clothing allowance.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, hold a minimum Indiana EMT-B certification, and pass a background check.

🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Today, South Haven Fire Department joins our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 lives taken that day, including the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and all of the first responders who answered the call without hesitation.

We also remember those who have lost their lives in the years since due to illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness remain an example to every firefighter who puts on the uniform.

May we never forget those we lost, those who responded, and the families who carry their memory forward.

Porter County and Portage Township residents affected by the Aug. 11 storm can seek assistance from during a “one-stop shop event” being held this week at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road.
The center Storm Assistance Information Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Sept. 10 and 11 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12.
The Portage Township Trustee’s Office and the Friends of Portage Township Foundation are taking part in this week’s event.


Other agencies available are:
• FEMA (Disaster Relief) will take applications for assistance. Those applying for FEMA disaster relief must bring their social security number, insurance details, damage description, income, contact information and banking details.
• Small Business Association will be taking applications for disaster loans.
• Red Cross will be taking applications from homeowners who have structural damage to their homes. They will also take applications for lost medical equipment, supplies and medication.
• IHCDA will provide information on how to apply for rental assistance or hotel vouchers if your home was destroyed in the storm.
• Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will offer assistance in replacing destroyed or damaged paperwork or driver’s licenses.
• Porter County Health Department will help replace lost or damage birth certificates and provide information on mold remediation.
• Portage Township Trustee Office is taking applications for the Portage Township Food Pantry, providing information on other local pantries and providing Portage Township residents with information on rental/mortgage assistance as well as utility assistance.
• Friends of Portage Township Foundation is taking applications for small or unmet storm recovery needs of Portage Township Residents.
• Northshore Health Centers is providing information about assistance their facilities can provide.

The event is being sponsored by Porter County Emergency Management and Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The responsible communications company has been notified. The line is safe to drive over, but motorists are asked to use caution while traveling through the area.

🚒 LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT 🚒

The South Haven Fire Department would like to recognize Carter Garcia for his years of dedicated service as Assistant Chief.

Carter began his career with the South Haven Fire Department in 2015 as a Firefighter and continued to advance through the ranks of the department. In 2019, Carter was promoted to Lieutenant, a position he held through 2021. He briefly served as Division Chief in 2021 before being promoted to Assistant Chief of Fire in 2022.

Throughout his time in leadership, Carter has dedicated countless hours to the department, its members, and the community we serve. His commitment and leadership have played an important role in the continued growth and success of our department.

As Carter steps down from his position as Assistant Chief, we would like to sincerely thank him for his leadership, dedication, and service. We appreciate everything he has contributed during his time as Assistant Chief and throughout his years in leadership.

We are also proud to congratulate Tyler Rosenbaum on his promotion to Assistant Chief!

Tyler joined the South Haven Fire Department in 2017 and has continued to advance through the department, serving as a Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, Training Coordinator, and now Assistant Chief.

In his new role, Assistant Chief Rosenbaum will oversee Fire Operations, helping lead our personnel, training, emergency response, and continued operational development.

Please join us in thanking Carter Garcia for his years of service and leadership as Assistant Chief and congratulating Assistant Chief Tyler Rosenbaum on his well-earned promotion.
