👏 Congratulations to the graduating class of the Valparaiso Police Department’s 2026 Citizen Police Academy! 🎓

Over the course of this session, participants gained an inside look at the dedicated work our officers and staff perform every day to serve and protect the Valparaiso community. From learning about our new Real Time Information Center (RTIC) to presentations from every division of the department, this class explored the many specialized roles that make our agency strong.

Graduates experienced firsthand demonstrations and discussions featuring our K9 Unit, Drone Team, Bike Patrol, School Resource Officers, Emergency Medical Responders, and so much more. We hope this experience provided valuable insight into the professionalism, teamwork, and commitment behind modern policing in Valparaiso.

Thank you to all of our graduates for your enthusiasm, engagement, and support throughout this wonderful session. We truly enjoyed getting to know each of you!

Please be advised that temporary road closures will be in effect tonight from 5:45 PM – 7:00 PM for the 5K9 Run/Walk hosted by the Valparaiso Fraternal Order of Police (Lodge #76) and Valpo Canines.

If traveling in the area, please use caution, expect brief delays, and plan accordingly. A map of the course has been provided to help avoid the area and find alternate routes. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as participants and officers enjoy this community event! 🐾

🚔 PROMOTION ANNOUNCEMENT 🚔

The Valparaiso Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Ethan Biggs to the rank of Sergeant.

Sgt. Biggs has served with the Valparaiso Police Department since October 2022, bringing with him years of prior law enforcement experience from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

During his time with VPD, Sgt. Biggs has become an active member of the Department Honor Guard, served on the Bike Patrol Unit, and earned certification as an Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board instructor specializing in fi****ms training. He has also received multiple commendations recognizing his outstanding police work and dedication to the community.

Please join us in congratulating Sergeant Ethan Biggs on this well-deserved promotion and continued service to the City of Valparaiso! 👏

Congratulations to the graduates of the Northern Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Class 26-55, on successfully completing basic training today. This remarkable achievement marks the beginning of a career defined by dedication, service, and commitment to protecting others.

We are especially proud of VPD Patrol Officer Preston Morris, who was among this outstanding group of recruits and will return to our Patrol Division next week. Preston, your hard work, perseverance, and professionalism throughout the academy are a reflection of the values we strive to uphold every day.

Graduating from the academy is an accomplishment that will stay with you for a lifetime. We look forward to welcoming you back to your crew and are proud to have you continuing to serve and protect our incredible community.
