🌧️ Heavy Rain & Flood Safety Reminder 🌧️

With heavy rain in the forecast, EAFD urges everyone to stay weather aware and use extra caution—especially in areas prone to flooding. Keep a close eye on weather alerts, watches, and warnings through trusted sources, and have a plan if conditions begin to deteriorate.

Never drive through flooded roadways. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road, and it’s impossible to know if the pavement beneath has been damaged or washed away.

✔️ Stay weather aware and monitor local forecasts
✔️ Enable emergency alerts on your phone
✔️ Avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas
✔️ Slow down and allow extra travel time
✔️ Move to higher ground if flooding begins
✔️ Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown®

Due to the forecast of severe weather expected in our area, we have made the difficult decision to postpone EAFD’s Junior Fire Academy scheduled for June 18.

The safety of our participants, families, and staff is our top priority, and the incoming weather conditions do not appear favorable for a safe and enjoyable event.

The Junior Fire Academy has been rescheduled for Monday, July 6.

If the July 6 date does not work for your family, please contact us via email. If you have already paid, a full refund will be issued. If you have not yet paid, your child will simply be removed from the participant list.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We were looking forward to spending the day with your future firefighters, but we want to ensure everyone has a safe and fun experience.

Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you on July 6!

EAFD is closely monitoring the weather forecast for the next several days. The safety of our Junior Fire Academy participants, families, and staff remains our top priority.

If conditions indicate severe or dangerous weather for Thursday, we will reschedule the Junior Fire Academy to our alternate date of July 6.

We will make a final decision tomorrow afternoon and will notify all registered participants by both text message and email using the contact information provided during registration.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Training never stops.

Today, EAFD crews had the opportunity to train alongside the safety team at John Soules Foods, focusing on hazmat awareness and response procedures within an industrial setting.

A special thank you to Taylor Foster and Josh McPeters for organizing this valuable training and helping keep our crews informed and prepared. We appreciate the time, knowledge, and hospitality your team provided.

It was a pleasure training at your facility and strengthening the partnerships that help keep our community safe.

A huge thank you to Autism Support of Alabama for generously providing sensory kits for our ambulances.

These backpacks are filled with thoughtful items such as noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses, and fidget toys to help make overwhelming or unfamiliar situations a little more manageable for our sensory-sensitive patients.

At EAFD, we know that emergency situations can be stressful. Having these resources available allows our crews to better support patients by creating a calmer, more comfortable environment when they need it most.

We are grateful for this partnership and for the difference these kits will make in our community. 💙🚑

Coming up next: the Junior Firefighter Challenge! 🚒🔥
After spending the day learning basic firefighting skills, our Junior Fire Academy participants will put those skills to the test on this challenge course. Modeled after real firefighter recruit training events, the course will require teamwork, determination, and a little grit.
