Trust God Like Abraham
By Cheryl Bolton on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 6:13am
A puppet and person script originally written to accompany a Sermon on Genesis 15 (Abraham trusts God).
Cast:
Tracey----- (a Person)
Junior----- (an Elmo style Muppet)
Script: Junior the puppet: (enters stage with a pen in mouth mumbles singing) “Father Abraham had many songs”, (drops pen) “Many sons had Father Abraham” (picks up pen and again starts mumbling)
Tracey the person: What are you doing Junior? Junior (dropping pen and picking it up again) I’m singing a song about Abraham.
Tracey: Then why can’t I understand you, what have you got in your Mouth?
Junior: (dropping pen and picking it up again) Because I don’t want to lose my fantasmagorical new pen, Its new and I just love it!!
Tracey: Why don’t you hold it so you can sing without mumbling?
Junior: (dropping pen) You know I’ve only got wiggly little monster arms that don’t really work. (waves arms) The only thing that works on me is my mouth.
Tracey: Well your mouth works enough to make up for it, let me tell you. (picking up pen) Here let me hold your pen for you Junior: GIVE IT BACK GIVE IT BACK GIMME BACK MY PEN! Tracey: (Giving it back) here, boy Junior you need to have more trust.
Junior: How could I rust? Only things made out of metal rust, like old cars and tractors, hammers and screwdrivers and old farmers left out in the rain. Tracey: No No Junior, not rust, trust, you need to trust more. Junior: Why would I want to eat crusts, nasty crusts. They make my fur curly. No self-respecting monster wants curly hair, I’d look like Miss Piggy if I had curly hair…and NO ONE wants that!! Why.. I’d look worse than Miss Cheryl does when she wakes up from her nap! Scary!!
Tracey: Junior I said Trust, T, Trust
Junior: I don’t want to be trussed, I saw them do that at a rodeo once, they tied up this poor cow and then they said they had it trussed like a turkey. No thank you. Monsters don’t like to be tied up, it reminds us of the dark ages before sesame street when monsters were discriminated against. Back then anyone with hairy ears or pointy teeth got tied up and done away with... Come to think of it half those people out there would be in big trouble as well. No tying me up thank you.
Tracey: Sometimes you’re a goose junior, I mean trust, T R U S T. Junior: Trust, what’s that?
Tracey: Trust is when you are confident that someone is honest, like me, or when you depend on someone to keep their word, or believe that they will do what they say. When you have faith in someone.
Junior the puppet: Well, why didn’t you say so, right at the beginning, we could have saved a lot of time. I know someone who trusted. Abraham trusted God. God said to Abraham he had to move house and go and live in another country. Even though he was old he believed God when God said he would give him children. And then he trusted God when he thought he would have to give that son back to God. God sent a ram to take his place . Boy I tell you, God always came through for Abraham and Abraham trusted God, but how do I know I can trust you? Tracey the person: have I ever lied to you? Junior: No Tracey Do I keep my promises unless something makes it impossible? Junior: I suppose Tracey: Is there anything to stop me giving back your pen and keeping my Word? Junior the puppet: Only an earthquake, or a twister, or a flash flood, (runs out of objections) I s’pose I can trust you. Alright, you hang onto my pen.
Tracey: Thanks, I won’t let you down
Junior: Hey God didn’t let Abraham down either. I guess that’s how Abraham knew he could Trust God. God keeps his promises and nothing stops God from doing what he wants. That’s what my song is about.
Tracey: About trusting God
Junior: Yup, we know we can trust God because he keeps his promises. We all should trust God and do what he says. God keeps his promises, and we should trust him. He is our God.
Tracey: That sounds like a good song, why don’t you come out and teach me and the children the song.
Everybody sings Father Abraham Had many sons to the cd.
Tracey the person: Thanks for teaching us that song, and here’s your pen back.
The End!
