We are now in the second week of early voting and the date of the primary election is next Tuesday - May 12th!
I wanted to take a moment to share information about my platform. This is a long one - but please read, like, share, and feel free to comment your thoughts or questions!
- Our schools need more funding - that problem lies at the state level and I will be a proponent for lobbying our representatives every chance we get for improved and more immediate funding.
- Until significant funding changes happen at the state level, we need to get creative and generate independent funds on our own. I have several ideas I’d love to explore. There is red tape with all of these of course, and they may not be perfect, but I bring these ideas to the table, which I think is crucial.
- I am PRO union for our teachers and will support them every step of the way - as much as one board member can.
- Public schools need to be more attractive. We are bleeding students and that is only making our funding situation worse. We need to improve the quality of education, retain and support our teachers and staff, and make it so parents have no doubt in their minds that public school is the right choice for their children.
- I hope to be a voice for my son Myles and children like him. A very vulnerable population who need all the help they can get in this state.
It is crucial that our candidates have fresh ideas they can bring to the table. We all know the capability of an individual board member is extremely limited, but as candidates, we need to be well-prepared and bring with us fresh ideas.
I’ve heard a lot of hand-wringing during this election season - people saying they don’t know what they can do or what can be done. I’ve had many talks with past and current board members, and I’ve been in the office of our CSBO/Treasurer talking about the logistics of what is possible and challenges we will have to face. I’ll know the full scope if elected once training is completed, but I’ve been working ahead of time to ensure my ideas could potentially be fruitful.
I am motivated, prepared, and ready to make change to benefit our school system. I would be very happy to earn your vote.
I want to stress how important it is that you go vote, not just for the Board of Education, but for the election as a whole. If you want to see change, do your research and ensure you vote for candidates who support public education!
