Together, we remember. Together, we rise. Why is it important for Vallejo to celebrate Juneteenth?

We asked residents from across our community and District 5 candidate Tara Beasley Stansberry the same question.

Juneteenth is more than a day on the calendar. It is a reminder that freedom, opportunity, and unity require all of us to work together..

📍 "Leadership starts with listening."

Today at Vallejo's Juneteenth celebration, the most meaningful moments weren't on the stage—they happened one conversation at a time.
Every resident has a story.
Every concern matters.
Every voice deserves to be heard.

Listening is where leadership begins.
What is one issue you'd like city leaders to focus on in District 5?

Earlier this week, I had an opportunity to sit down with some of our District 5 youth, and what a humbling experience it was. I learned what their fears are what their goals are and how they feel about our city. Let’s be honest, it can be challenging to get youth to speak their truth so I thank Danny and his friends for allowing me to be that listening ear that some of us wish we had early on.

Today, we honor Juneteenth—a day that reminds us that freedom, dignity, and opportunity should belong to every person.

As we celebrate the resilience, strength, and contributions of African Americans throughout our nation's history, we also reflect on the work that remains to build a more just and united community.

May this day inspire us to listen, learn, and continue working together to ensure that every voice is valued and every person has the opportunity to thrive.

Happy Juneteenth.

Building a better Vallejo means supporting every neighbor on their journey toward stability and success.

I am so honored to announce the endorsement of Danny Cotton, the owner of Wotha Dabora Facilities. Wotha Dabora is a vital reentry assistance organization right here in our community, providing transitional housing and essential support for formerly incarcerated individuals as they reconnect with employment, family, and society.

This work sits at the heart of my "Homes & Health with Accountability" priority. When we provide stable housing pathways paired with local support, we aren't just helping individuals: we are building a safer, stronger Vallejo for everyone. Danny’s dedication to providing people with a second chance through housing and job connectivity is exactly the kind of intentional leadership our city needs.

Thank you, Danny, for your trust and for the incredible work you do to strengthen the fabric of our community. Let’s keep moving Vallejo forward, together! 🤝✨
