On the cusp of the 2026-27 school year, Valhalla Union Free School District employees gathered for a warm and inspiring Staff Opening Day.
In preparation of welcoming students back to school on Sept. 3, staff members gathered in the Valhalla Middle/High School auditorium for the annual convocation on Sept. 1. It was followed by lunch, collaborative activities and work in their respective buildings.
"You chose this profession because you wanted to make a difference," said Superintendent Kevin C. McLeod to a room full of Viking staff members. "Making a difference requires more than credentials, intelligence or experience. It requires showing up each day with purpose. It requires choosing engagement over complacency. It requires discipline when enthusiasm fades. It requires continuing to learn, even after years of success. That's what transforms potential into progress... Let's help every child discover not only their potential, but also experience the pride and confidence that come from making progress."
