Today, the Malheur County Court signed a Drought resolution for Malheur County. The County Emergency Manager filed that resolution with a formal letter to the Drought Readiness Counsel.

Drought is coming early for us this year, after not filing last year. Support your local farmers and ranchers that have to work overtime to get water where it needs to go.

🚒 Wildfire prevention work is underway in Malheur County

Owyhee Irrigation District is partnering with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service on a multi‑year wildfire risk reduction project supported by the Bureau of Land Management, with more than $1.3 million in combined BLM and local funding.

The effort focuses on areas from Adrian to the Snake River and includes:
• Strengthening fuel breaks along canal and desert access roads
• Improving emergency response access and water supply points for firefighters
• Managing invasive vegetation that fuels wildfires
• Outreach to local landowners on wildfire prevention and preparedness
This project runs through 2029 and is designed to help protect homes, farms, infrastructure, and communities across Malheur County.

🔥 Proactive prevention today helps protect Malheur County tomorrow.

Malheur County Emergency Management took possession of a brand new sand bagging machine on a trailer from Oregon Emergency Management on Friday December 12, 2025. This is the first of two sand bagging machines that were made available to this region by the SPIRE grant, administered through Oregon Emergency Management. This one and Harney County's trailer are owned by the State, but kept and maintained by our local jurisdictions so that the equipment is available to be used locally, regionally or across the State if needed.
