Several CVFD members spent today at the NC Transportation Museum Firetruck festival.
There were some beautiful antique trucks there, as well as the newest tiller trucks, some foreign versions, and a few tribute ( fictitious) trucks and departments.

While it was really hot, the event drew large crowds and we had a lot of interest in our vehicles.

Just before midnight a powerful storm came through the district. 3 large trees were knocked down and completely blocked Mull Rd. CVFD was dispatched to the scene.
E-141 arrived and requested additional assistance from Northbrook FD to approach from the other side and additional units T-147 and C-146 for equipment and manpower.

It took both agencies about a hour to open the roadway and clear the trees. NCDOT was notified for a follow up to further clear the side right of way areas.

Huge shout out to our partners at Northbrook FD for the assist. The extra equipment and manpower made a huge difference.

CVFD leaves the station early tomorrow, bringing the Harley Davidson and the antique ( still in service) brush truck 144. Looking for something to do? Come see us and other fire apparatus tomorrow.

CVFD and the CVFD Auxiliary want to thank Mr. Bradshaw, Extreme Fitness, the Appalachian Championship Wrestling members, and all those who came out Saturday evening for a fun event and some great food.

With perfect weather, a light breeze and an enthusiastic crowd cheering on their favorites, we watched the unmasking of one, an undefeated champion, and the excitement and shenanigans that define the wrestling scene😀.

As announced that evening, proceeds from the event help support our local volunteer fire department. Thank you everyone that worked to make the event a success and came out to enjoy the show.

CVFD is scheduled to bring our Chevy step side Brush Truck, and the Harley Davidson Fire Bike to this event. We would love to see some familiar faces supporting us.

Our junior firefighter Tyler Hull was in Taylorsville on Saturday, participating in a Junior firefighter event day. He had the opportunity to work with members of other departments including our mutual aid partners at Mountain View FD.

Topics and practicals included Ventilation, Forcible Entry, Vehicle Extrication,
Hose Advancement , Searching and RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) scenarios.

CVFD is extremely proud of this young man. Last month he competed in a skills challenge and we finally got the results: 8th out of 18 across the state. Congratulations Tyler.

CVFD hosted the Catawba County Firefighters Association meeting at Station 14 this evening. With over 50+ members in attendance a lot was accomplished.

The event began with a welcome and orientation from Chief P Weinrich, followed by invocation and blessing of the meal by department Chaplain Rev Greg Plott, before the auxiliary served a chicken pie dinner and dessert.

In addition to the regular meeting the members had the opportunity to review and try several Greenworks products on display, and ask questions about the equipment to the local vendor.

Members were also introduced to Wildlife Officer Trey Huffman, who provided a general information session on availability, resources, when to call, and interactive situations such as emergency medical calls that may involve hunting incidents and involve the wildlife services.

After the official meeting ended, Piedmont Natural Gas representatives provided a training session/review on interagency cooperation, emergency response, as well as helpful reminders on the differences between natural gas and propane. Local fueling stations as well as natural gas fueled vehicles were discussed, and a Q&A session helped clarify what the fire department response can do to mitigate an emergency, and how to support the Natural Gas Technicians when needed. One of the key take aways from this training session was letting a natural gas fire burn was many times safer than extinguishing the fire, as well as noting times when it is best not to try to stop a leak.
