IYKYK… 👀❄️
When the snow starts creeping down Sugarloaf, every Valdez local knows what that means: the countdown is ON. Only a short matter of time until winter decides it’s done being subtle. 😬

While we admire this dusting from a safe distance, now is the time to start winter prep!

One big way you can help City of Valdez Public Works get ready: Clear personal vehicles, boats, trailers, and other belongings out of City snow storage lots. Crews need these areas open and accessible before the snow really starts flying.

And maybe locate the snow shovel. Check the snowblower. Find the good gloves. You know the drill.

Winter is coming. We have photographic evidence. ❄️

Winter is coming ... (cue the ominous music) But that doesn't mean you can't start prepping now. On these last few golden days of "fall", get out and mow the lawn, clean up brush, rake up some leaves, and prepare the lawn for (we don't want to say it, but we're all thinking it anyway) ...snow.
Don't miss the last two Wednesday grass route pick-ups: September 23 & 30.

We hate to be the ones to say it…but winter is coming. ❄️

The mountains are starting to look suspiciously white, the rain has been doing what Valdez rain does best, and your lawn has probably given up on summer right along with the rest of us.

That means the Grass Route is getting ready to call it a season!

Just TWO pickups remain:
Wednesday, September 23
Wednesday, September 30 - LAST CALL!

So, when Valdez weather gives you a break, take the hint. Mow that last patch. Rake the yard. Gather those clippings. Move the mystery items that have been sitting next to the shed since June. Future You... (ahem) the one holding a snow shovel... will appreciate it.

Get those final grass and yard clippings ready before the Grass Route goes into hibernation. 😅❄️

🗑️The Baler Facility will be CLOSED on Friday, September 18 (all day) for preventive maintenance.

Regular facility hours will resume Saturday, September 19 at 9 AM.

👀Looking ahead: Starting in October, the Baler will be closed on the last Friday of the month. These monthly closures allow staff time to catch up on administrative work, clean & maintenance equipment, and complete critical staff training. Residential & commercial trash/ dumpster collection will continue during these closures.

🚧Meals Ave Repaving Project & School Start Update 🚌
Please note that starting Thursday, August 20, the bus will begin picking up local children from the temporary road on the east end of the parkstrip. Let's all remember to drive the speed limit (10 mph - we know, that's sooo slow! But it's there to keep everyone safe and sound!) when traveling on the temporary road.
