Peak streamflow is one of the five key indicators that we use to monitor the health of our water supply. It is the highest flow of water occurring at any given point over the course of the year. This year’s peak streamflow occurred on May 15 and was the lowest on record.

As we navigate this challenging year, please do your part to help protect our rivers and streams by cutting back on your water use, especially outdoor use.

Love living in the Eagle River Valley? Then please join us and “Live Like a Local” this summer and beyond!

With snowpack at historically low levels this past winter and Eagle County in exceptional drought, our rivers, streams, and reservoirs are under pressure. That’s why we are encouraging residents and property owners to shift away from water-intensive landscaping and toward practices that reflect the natural mountain environment.

"Living like a local means letting our mountain environment inspire what we plant on our properties," said Ryan Vlaar, Horticulture Specialist with Beyond Lawn. "The landscapes that thrive here are built around native and waterwise plants, smaller lawns, and irrigation sized for our climate and the water we share."
