UPDATE: Video footage of the vandalism and a license plate has been obtained and forwarded to PCSD. Thank you to our community for staying alert and reporting the vandalism. We appreciate you!
This afternoon several community members spent several hours pounding rebar into the ground to place large street signs for the upcoming VUSD override. Within two hours someone destroyed four of those signs. Some were slashed in pieces and another was clearly run down by a vehicle.
A group of parents and community members volunteer to run the override campaign because we want our children to be able to keep art, music, PE, and advanced classes. We work hard to raise the money to design and purchase the signs, and then place them in areas throughout the community ourselves. And these signs are costly to replace.
The person that destroyed the signs committed a crime. We are in the process of filing a report with the Pima County Sheriff Department and Pima County Elections Office.
Every Vail resident has a chance to make their voice heard on the override… ON THE BALLOT. It is not okay to vandalize the property of others, just because they hold a different opinion than you.
This was done in broad daylight sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 pm today (Friday, Sept. 24th). If you were in the area of Colossal Cave/Wentworth and saw the person or persons responsible for the vandalism, please private message us.
