Hello Family Child Care Providers and Educators,

My name is Ebony Brown, and I am a student at Sacramento State University studying Child and Adolescent Development, Early Development and Early Care Education . I am currently taking CHAD 123: Quantitative Methods in Human Development, and I am developing a research proposal focused on the important role that Family Child Care (FCC) programs and providers play in the lives of children, families, and our communities.

As a licensed Family Child Care Provider and Family Child Care Educator business Coach for the past 17 years, I have personally experienced the dedication, commitment, challenges, and impact that FCC providers bring to the field of Early Childhood Education. Because of my own journey, I want to hear from other Family Child Care providers and educators and learn from your experiences, perspectives, challenges, and ideas.

One area I am interested in researching is equity and quality in Family Child Care programs specifically, how FCC programs can receive greater recognition, funds, resources, support, professional opportunities, and access to quality improvement, comparable to the support and resources available throughout the K–12 education system.

Family Child Care providers play an essential role in children's development, beginning in infancy and early childhood, while also providing continued support to children and families as they transition into preschool, kindergarten, and beyond.

Our work extends beyond education and care we support families, strengthen communities, build relationships, and contribute to the development of the children we serve.

I am looking for 5 Family Child Care Providers/Educators who would be willing to volunteer their time to participate in a brief interview consisting of approximately 15–20 questions.

The interview will explore your experiences and perspectives regarding:

Equity and quality in Family Child Care

Access to resources and professional support

Recognition of FCC providers as early childhood professionals

Challenges faced by Family Child Care programs

Opportunities for growth and quality improvement

Advocacy and leadership within the field

Ideas for strengthening the future of Family Child Care

Your participation will help me better understand the experiences of FCC providers and develop a meaningful research proposal for my CHAD 123 course.

Yesterday, I had an awesome time at the Solano County Local Planning Council (LPC) Annual Meeting! ❤️

It was a great opportunity to come together, connect, and discuss the upcoming planning for Year One of our strategic planning. One of the important things we worked on this year was discovering our WHY and coming together with a shared purpose for the greater good of children and families in Solano County.

The mission of the Solano Child Care Planning Council is to provide leadership and advocacy for the development of high-quality, accessible, and affordable child care programs for every child and family in Solano County. The vision is for every child and family in Solano County to have equitable access to high-quality, inclusive, affordable child care and the supports they need to thrive. 📢 I encourage all stakeholders to get involved! This includes families, community representatives, organizations, early childhood education leaders, business owners, child care providers, and community partners.

As we wrap up Day 2 of the Humanity First Learning Summer Institute 2026, I am leaving with a greater sense of purpose, reflection, and inspiration.

Over the past two days, I have had the opportunity to learn alongside leaders, educators, advocates, and community partners who are committed to making a difference in the lives of children and families. Each conversation challenged me to think differently and reminded me of the importance of leading with humanity at the center of our work.

One of the most powerful takeaways from Day 2 was a quote shared by Simon Sinek that served as an eye-opener for me. It highlighted the difference between being positive and being optimistic.

Positivity tells ourselves and others that everything is good, even when it may not be.

Optimism, however, accepts the truth of reality, acknowledges challenges and disappointments, and still chooses to believe that a brighter future is possible. It looks beyond obstacles and focuses on finding a path forward and creating solutions.

This perspective reminded me that true leadership is not about pretending problems do not exist. It is about facing reality with courage, learning from one another, and working together to build stronger communities and systems for children and families.

A heartfelt thank you to Jonathan and Julia from Leading for Children for pouring into the leaders of Solano County and the surrounding communities. Your wisdom, facilitation, and commitment to the Humanity First framework have left a lasting impact.

Thank you to Quality Counts Solano and the Solano County Office of Education for bringing this important conversation and learning opportunity to our community. These discussions are helping us grow as leaders, strengthen our relationships, and create meaningful change together.

Today was such an inspiring and impactful day!

I had the opportunity to step into a room filled with educators, leaders, advocates, peer support specialists, coaches, teachers, organization leaders, and business owners. One of the most powerful aspects of the experience was that we were asked to set aside our titles and come together with a common purpose to better understand how humanity shapes the way we see, think, and respond to the world around us.

There was a wealth of information shared throughout the day, but what impacted me most were the people, the conversations, and the willingness to learn from one another. As I walked away, I realized that the topics discussed helped shape my thinking and gave me a fresh perspective on life, leadership, and community.

I especially appreciated the theme: "Humanity Starts With You." These conversations are essential for creating sustainable systems as communities collaborate and work together toward a common vision. Whenever I enter spaces like this, I come with an open mind, ready to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.

One of the questions asked on Day 1 was: "Set an intention what might this look like for each of us?" It was a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and ground ourselves in purpose. I learned so much today and gained valuable insights from every person in the room.

I would like to leave you with a quote that resonated deeply with me:

"Shared humanity is not just an idea; it is the heart of our daily lives, guiding our actions and intentions."

Thank you to Quality Counts Solano Early Care and Education for creating a space where these important conversations can take place. A special thank you to our facilitators, Jonathan and Julie, for introducing the Humanity First Model, the Mutual Learning Method, and practical tools that help us put these concepts into action.

To those who were unable to attend today, you were truly missed. I hope to see you during the next session because these conversations are so needed as we continue to grow, learn, and lead together. Our collective voices, experiences, and perspectives make this work stronger and more meaningful.

We are now on Week 3 of the Business Administration Scale (BAS) for Family Child Care training. This week, we had the opportunity to dive into Fiscal Management and Record-keeping two essential components of building and maintaining a successful Family Child Care business.

One of the highlights of the training was participating in real-life business scenarios. We worked together to discuss and act out situations that Family Child Care providers may encounter and explored how to respond using best business practices. These hands-on activities provided valuable insight and practical strategies that we can apply within our own programs.

Thank you to our facilitators for creating an engaging learning environment and for investing in the growth and success of Family Child Care professionals. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue learning, networking, and strengthening the systems that support high-quality care for children and families.

As I celebrate my graduation, my heart is overflowing with gratitude. This achievement represents years of hard work, dedication, faith, and perseverance but most importantly, it represents the incredible children and families who have been part of my journey.
To every child who has walked through our doors over the past 16 years, thank you. You have brought joy, laughter, curiosity, and countless learning experiences into my life. You have taught me patience, creativity, resilience, and the true meaning of nurturing young hearts and minds.

To every family who trusted me with your most precious gift, your child, thank you. Your support, encouragement, and partnership have helped shape me into the leader, teacher, educator, and advocate I am today. The lessons I have learned from serving you have extended far beyond the classroom and have helped me grow both professionally and personally.

When I look at this graduation milestone, I do not see it as my success alone. I see the faces of the children whose lives have touched mine. I see the families who believed in me, prayed for me, encouraged me, and allowed me to be part of their story. This accomplishment belongs to all of us.

To my future children and families, I want you to know that I am committed to serving you with excellence, compassion, and a heart dedicated to lifelong learning. Although I have earned this degree, my educational journey does not end here. I promise to remain a lifelong learner, continually seeking knowledge, wisdom, and growth so I can better support children, families, and our community.

As God continues to strengthen me, guide me, and equip me with wisdom and understanding, I will continue to pour my heart into this work. I will continue advocating for children, supporting families, and creating environments where every child feels safe, valued, loved, and empowered to succeed.

Tonight I have the opportunity to attend the Business Administration Scale (BAS) for Family Child Care training. BAS is a tool used to measure and improve the quality of business and professional practices within Family Child Care programs.

This is an opportunity for us as Family Child Care providers to come together, network, and learn how to build successful businesses and high-quality programs by implementing effective systems and strong business practices.

Thank you to the Solano County Office of Education, along with Sindy and Rebecca, for facilitating this training and pouring into Family Child Care educators. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow in all aspects of my business and program. 📊 🧩🗄️

Day Without Childcare highlights the essential role childcare providers play in supporting children, families, and the economy. Without childcare, there would be no workforce. Childcare not only serves a vital purpose in our communities, but it also gives us the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of the families and children we serve without childcare:
Parents miss work ,Businesses struggle to stay staffed, Families face impossible choices and Communities feel the impact immediately. When we support changes in policy and legislation, we bring awareness to the real challenges families and providers face every day. This is what real community change in action looks like. 🚼🩷🧡
