Last week I was fortunate to spend a day with Sheriff Wilmot of the Yuma County Sheriff's Office and Yuma Deputy Mayor Chris Morris along the Arizona/Mexico border. Unlike many of our representatives who travel purely to “show concern”, I was able to see a small snippet of an area that was unfiltered and unprepared for media. By noon there was an estimated 800+ give-ups that were apprehended by border patrol, who knows how many got-aways entered unchecked in to our country. The Yuma hospital has been overwhelmed by illegal entrants seeking services, costing Yuma taxpayers over $26 million last year alone. Not to mention longer wait times and decreased service to citizens of the area. Illegals are defecating in farmers fields near the border, thus leading to reduced yields (FDA rules) which is hindering the ability of farmers to earn a profit. These costs do not stop at the border as we found many itinerary’s that showed final destinations all over the United States. We need to secure our border, enforce the law, and reform the process for legal entry. The federal government under this administration is failing our citizens and the community!
