It's time, Texas!
Spring migration is here, and Birds need our help! Lets protect our feathered friends!

Turn off all non-essential lighting outside and inside from 11:00pm to 6:00am each night during migration (March 1 - June 15).

TerraTx Art Fest is a three day art festival happening September 25–27 in the Frio Canyon. TerraTx Art Fest

Artists from across the region will spend the week creating site specific public artworks inspired by the land, history, and culture of the canyon. Each artist is paired with local historians, naturalists, and culture bearers so the work reflects the true stories of this place.

Throughout the weekend the community is invited to take part in hands on art activities, live demonstrations, storytelling, music, and presentations about the ecology and history of the region.

When the weekend is over, the art stays. The completed works become part of a growing public art trail across Real and Uvalde Counties, encouraging visitors to explore the Frio Canyon beyond the river and experience the stories of the land year round.

Wonderful day for birding!!
Dec.27, 2025 we were asked to participate in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count, CBC.

This was the 2nd year for Garner State Park to participate. Garner State Park
Master Naturalist Dell Little organized it.
The count area covered a 15 mile radius around and including inside Garner Park.

Dell asked me to organize a group for the stretch east of Garner on FM 1050, from 2748 eastward.
We had 6 participants; Kim Carter kept up with the bird tally, others spotting birds were Leta Schmid Gustin, Mary Radicke, Shreve Maranto, Janet Hutto Trammell & myself.

We met at my Hill Country Adventures Nature Center. Birded there at feeders a few hours.

Then we walked to my cabin, sat on porch counting birds at my feeders.
We then walked the trail on Indian Blanket Ranch.
Made it back to Nature Center for a quick lunch.

Then we drove west on 1050 over the hills to Tres Canyons Ranch my cousin's place.
Thx Kelly Landrum Murphy-Brown & Eric for allowing us to look for birds along your road, feeders & pond! Kelly also introduced our group to Gus, the Eland she bottle raised in the spring. He is a big boy now!

Our total for different Species counted at all these places & along 1050 was 36 species.
Total birds counted for the day was 282.

Pics show a sampling of our fun day!!
If you'd like to join our team next Dec.
let me know.
