Sewer Rehabilitation Project to Begin on Genesee Street

The City of Utica would like to notify residents and motorists of upcoming sewer rehabilitation work that will begin next week as part of the City's ongoing efforts to maintain and improve critical infrastructure.

The project consists of trenchless sewer lining rehabilitation at several locations throughout the city. This method creates a new pipe within the existing sewer line, preserving the integrity of the sewer system while minimizing future excavation and restoration costs. By utilizing trenchless technology, disruption to roadways, sidewalks, and adjacent properties is significantly reduced while extending the service life of the sewer infrastructure.

The locations included in this contract are:

• Private sewer line along Fairview Heights adjacent to Genesee Street between Beverly Place and Barton Avenue.
• Private sewer line between Parkway and Garden Road within the limits of Sherman Drive and Gibson Road.
• Private sewer line between Crestway Park and Eastwood Road at Arlington Place.

Traffic Impacts

Contractor Insituform is scheduled to begin work at the Genesee Street location next week. The sewer lining operation is expected to take approximately five to six business days to complete.
During construction, temporary bypass pumping operations will be required. As a result, driving lanes on Genesee Street near Beverly Place will be narrowed to accommodate the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution, anticipate minor delays, and follow all posted traffic control devices while traveling through the area.

Resident and Business Notification

As part of the lining process, some properties may experience temporary odors or brief interruptions in sewer service. Contractors will provide advance notification to affected residents and businesses prior to work occurring in their area. Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the attached notification materials for additional information regarding the process and what to expect during construction.

To help minimize potential odors during construction activities, the City recommends:

• Keeping toilet lids closed when not in use.
• Pouring water into infrequently used drains, particularly basement floor drains, to maintain water seals and reduce the potential for odors entering the building.

The City of Utica appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as these important infrastructure improvements are completed.

Utica Zoo Cuts Ribbon on Locally Grown Coral Exhibit

The Utica Zoo’s new exhibit is officially open, and it’s the result of a lot of local talent and dedication. Brought to us by Dr. Ronny Bull, the exhibit features coral grown right here in our community by Bull Reef Aquaculture, with construction and installation were assisted by Usmail Electric.

It’s always great to see local businesses and community partners stepping up to support one of our region’s favorite destinations. This exhibit is a reminder that when people who care about the zoo get involved, great things happen. Be sure to stop by and check it out!

This year Utica Little League as an organization has experienced major growth. With 29 teams across Tee Ball (over 125 children in just Tee Ball), Minor A, Minor B, Softball, and Little League Majors – the season is alive and well.

This post is a congratulations to one team in particular, but before we get to that the city would like to say cheers to each team that participated in this year’s season. Each player, coach, and family had an experience and to the soon to be young adolescents moving on from Little League – good luck and we hope you each continue playing.

Congratulations to Parkway Drugs (first photo in the reel) on capturing the 2026 Utica Little League Championship. The coaching staff led their team through an impressive 11-1 season for Parkway Drugs, fostering talent, teamwork, and dedication from the first game of the year through the championship finale. The hard work, commitment to the mental and physical aspects of the sport, led to a memorable year for their team, and created a team that was, with one exception undefeated. The players' themselves showed a commitment to one another and determination driven by their coaches on the field played a key role in the team's success.

While the rest of the league will continue its regular season throughout June, the Little League Majors concluded their season yesterday on Tuesday, June 9th, at the Championship game in West Utica with the support of many spectators.

Pictured below are Parkway Drugs (Black Team and League Champs), CNY Awards (Orange Team), Padula Roofing (Blue Team), and Thomas Lindsey (Dark Blue Team).

Now that the Little League Major’s season is done it’s on to the A, B, and C All-Stars. Good luck to each of our teams as they start their practices leading up to their games amongst District wide competition.

While addressing the same quality-of-life concerns and speaking with homeowners about maintaining our neighborhoods, we also wanted to take a moment to recognize the many residents who take great pride in their properties. Their dedication helps keep Utica a welcoming, vibrant, and beautiful place to call home.
