✨Reminder✨: You’re allowed to pause, question, or say no—at any time!!
In Utah and across the United States, patients have the legally and ethically protected right to refuse any medical procedure, medication, or intervention during labor, provided they are competent adults with decision-making capacity.
This includes the right to revoke consent at any time, even after signing forms or after a procedure has already begun.
Common refusals:
For mom:
* Induction, IV fluids, continuous fetal monitoring, medications, epidural, Pitocin.
For baby:
* Vitamin K, antibiotic eye ointment, Hep B, bath, delayed cord clamping.
Right to Information: Before you decide, providers must explain the benefits, risks, and alternatives of a procedure (including the risks of doing nothing)!!
