Patriot Day – September 11th

Below is the schedule of activities taking place at Freedom Grove on September 11th as our community comes together to remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who have continued to serve our country in the years since.

Additionally, Champaign County fire departments will be stationed around the Square at approximately 7:00 a.m. on September 11th as the VFW lowers the flag to half-staff at sunrise in observance of Patriot Day.

We invite you to line the Square with us as we pause to remember, honor, and reflect on that day and the sacrifices made by so many.

Due to the heat advisory during the week of August 31, 2026, Rumpke has informed the City of Urbana that curbside recycling collections are being adjusted with earlier start times for each collection day. Rumpke reminds customers that trash and recycling should always be placed at the curb in the evening before their scheduled service day. Placing material at the curb the night before scheduled collection helps prevent missed collections when start times are adjusted for weather and traffic conditions.

SR 55
An ODOT contractor began milling SR 55 today within the City of Urbana. Flaggers are present to control traffic while the grinding of the existing pavement takes place. ODOT states paving of SR 55 will begin later this week, hopefully wrapping up by Friday (9/4). Please use caution and allow for extra time on SR 55 throughout the week.

US 68 South
A separate ODOT contractor plans to begin asphalt repairs on US 68 south of Urbana on Thursday (9/3). In the coming weeks, the contractor will mill and pave US 68 from roughly the Urbana PreK-8 to where US 68 widens into a 4-lane road.
