On June 17th and 18th, the City of Urbana will have a contractor working on S. High St. to apply a preservative sealant to the asphalt to extend the life of the pavement. Residents will be individually notified by an informational flyer or door hanger from the contractor, Pavement Technology Inc., and “No Parking” signs will be posted in applicable areas, prior to work being done.

Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, starting around 8am the contractor will begin the application of the liquid sealant. During the application process certain blocks along the street will be closed to through traffic. This preservative sealant is not applied to the concrete intersections, but there will be equipment and workers in those areas. Once the application soaks into the asphalt, sand is applied while the curing process is taking place. Please keep in mind that humidity does play a factor in the curing process, so the time frame for opening portions of the street may vary.

Thursday, June 18th, 2026, the contractor will be sweeping the street to remove excess sand. There will be lane shifts around the sweeper or possible intermittent closures along S. High St.

Please allow extra time in this area. Also, this application process is weather permitting. If the contractor needs to delay application, I will update you on the new date.
