Families come in many different forms.

Whether through foster care, kinship care, adoption, or biological families, every child deserves a safe, supportive home.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday heroes who answered the call.

We also remember the families whose lives were forever changed and reflect on the strength, resilience, and unity that emerged during one of our nation's most difficult days.

May we continue to honor their memory through compassion, service, and support for one another.

The Champaign County Family and Children First Council convened a team to attend the Department of Children and Youth’s KIDS Summit yesterday. It was an honor to spend the day alongside local professionals who share a deep commitment and passion for improving the lives of children and families in our community.

Our discussions focused on several important topics, including reducing infant mortality, increasing access to early care and education, and lowering foster care entry rates.

This dedicated team included representatives from:
-Family and Children First Council
-Madison-Champaign County Educational Service Center
-Champaign County Department of Job and Family Services
-Champaign County Health District
-Urbana City Schools
-Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools
-Graham Local Schools

We are grateful for the collaboration and the shared vision for stronger futures for our kids and families.

As Child Support Awareness Month comes to a close, we'd like to thank everyone who helps support children in our community.

Parents, caretakers, employers, schools, courts, healthcare providers, and community partners all play an important role.

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up with the support they need. Together, we can help make that happen.

Child Support by the Numbers

Behind every case is a child, a family, and a future.

Here in Champaign County, our Child Support team serves 2,792 children through approximately 2,400 active cases. Last year alone, more than $5.7 million in child support was collected to help families provide for their children's everyday needs. Our team also establishes paternity in about 40 cases each year, helping children gain the legal and financial support they deserve.

These numbers represent more than statistics. They represent children receiving the support they need to grow, learn, and thrive. 💚
