EMA has direct responsibility for the organization, administration, training and operation of the County organization of emergency services and disasters. In the event of a disaster, coordinates with local EMA throughout the County and all Public Safety Departments to protect the health and safety of persons, protect property and provide emergency assistance to victims.

Scattered strong to severe storms are forecast to track east over parts of the area this evening. Isolated damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rain are possible with these storms.

Scattered storms will affect the area today and Tuesday night into Wednesday. Seasonable temperatures will trend slightly cooler for Wednesday and Thursday.

Active "ring of fire" pattern will pose a risk of severe weather through Sunday evening. Multiple rounds of storms are forecast; one after Midnight; and one during Sunday evening/evening. The greatest threat will be isolated wind gusts exceeding 60 mph.

🚨 TRAFFIC & WATER LEVEL UPDATE 🚨

While standing water is beginning to drain from ditches and rural roadways, that runoff is actively moving into local creeks and rivers. Expect river levels throughout Champaign County to continue rising over the next several hours (Especially in the northern part of the county).

🚘 Driver Safety Reminders:

Bridge Hazards: Use extra caution when crossing bridges. Fast-moving water and floating debris can create hazardous conditions near bridge structures.

Road Conditions Can Be Deceptive: Just because a road looks clearer does not mean all hazards are gone. Watch for mud, debris, and washed-out shoulders.

Never Drive Through Standing Water: Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Please slow down, keep your headlights on, and drive safely!

-​Widespread standing water on roadways
-​Creeks and drainage areas beginning to swell rapidly.

​Safety Recommendations:
-​Stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
-​Never drive through standing water. (Remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown—just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle away).
