It is with profound sadness that the Urbana Fire Division announces the passing of our retired brother, George Cady.

George dedicated his life to serving the citizens of Urbana, beginning his career with the Urbana Fire Division on August 8, 1968. Over the course of his distinguished career, he faithfully served this community and helped shape generations of firefighters who followed in his footsteps.

Even after retirement, George remained deeply connected to the department he loved. He was a proud steward of our history, a trusted source of knowledge, and a familiar face whose stories, wisdom, and friendship helped preserve the legacy of the Urbana Fire Division for future generations.

The Urbana Fire Division (UFD) would like to recognize two of our firefighter/paramedics for their recent achievement of earning their State of Ohio Fire and Emergency Services Instructor certification. Firefighters Wagner and Sidders recently completed the program at Bowling Green State University.

Fire and Emergency Services Instructors are responsible for teaching critical skills, safety practices, and emergency response techniques that help ensure crews are prepared when emergencies occur. UFD has certified instructors assigned to each shift, allowing for in-house training to count toward state-mandated continuing education hours.

Congratulations to Firefighters Wagner and Sidders on this outstanding accomplishment.

In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS professionals and the important work they do in our nation's communities. National Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline.

The Urbana Fire Division (UFD) takes pride in providing 24/7, 365-day advanced & basic life support services to the Urbana community. Regardless of the nature of the EMS incident, UFD is committed to delivering the highest level of care by ensuring paramedics respond to every EMS call for service. We do not do this because we have to — we do it because it is the right thing to do for our community.
