BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress designated September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day.”

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2026, as Patriot Day, 2026. I call upon all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States to display the Flag of the United States at half-staff in honor of the 2,977 victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001. I also invite the Governors of the United States and its Territories, and interested organizations and individuals, to join in this observance.

It is with profound sadness that The Urbana Fire Division announces the passing of retired Firefighter Richard Myers.

Firefighter Myers dedicated his career to serving the citizens of Urbana and retired with more than 25 years of service to our community.

His commitment to the Urbana Fire Division and the people he served will not be forgotten.

Patriot Day – September 11th

Below is the schedule of activities taking place at Freedom Grove on September 11th as our community comes together to remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who have continued to serve our country in the years since.

Additionally, Champaign County fire departments will be stationed around the Square at approximately 7:00 a.m. on September 11th as the VFW lowers the flag to half-staff at sunrise in observance of Patriot Day.

We invite you to line the Square with us as we pause to remember, honor, and reflect on that day and the sacrifices made by so many.

Recently, Urbana Fire Division Firefighter Reid attended and graduated from the National Honor Guard Academy in Cincinnati.

This week-long course focused on preparing public safety personnel to provide compassionate support and care to the families of emergency service providers during their greatest time of need.

As a Division, we believe our responsibility extends beyond caring for the community. We also have a responsibility to take care of the people—both active and retired—who have dedicated their lives to taking care of our community.

We are proud of Firefighter Reid for taking the initiative to receive this specialized training and for helping strengthen our ability to support our members and their families when they need us most.

Taking care of those who take care of others—that's what the fire service family is all about.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Thackerys for bringing dinner to our on-duty crew tonight!

We truly appreciate their kindness and generosity toward our firefighters, but even more than the meal, we want to recognize and thank the Thackerys for everything they do for the Urbana community.

It is local businesses and community members who continue to step up, support one another, and make Urbana such a great place to live and work.
