UVFC responds to Carroll County for house fire

Midday Sunday, your Upperco volunteers responded to the scene of a house fire in the 2000blk of Deer Park Rd in Finksburg.

First arriving units from Gamber & Community Fire Company and Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS of Maryland found fire in the kitchen and attic of a single-family dwelling.

Upperco personnel assisted with fire control and opening up for hot spots before returning to service sometime later. Two pets were removed safely from the house and transferred to the care of Animal Control officers who responded. No human injuries were reported.

Generators can be helpful when the power goes out. It is important to know how to use them safely to prevent carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and other hazards.

🔴 Generators and fuel should always be used outdoors and at least 20 feet away from windows, doors and attached garages.
🔴 Install working carbon monoxide detectors on every level of your home. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can kill you, your family and pets.
🔴 Keep the generator dry and protected from rain or flooding. Touching a wet generator or devices connected to one can cause electrical shock.
🔴 Always connect the generator to appliances with heavy-duty extension cords.
🔴 Let the generator cool before refueling. Fuel spilled on hot engine parts can ignite.
🔴 Follow manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Upperco VFC Hosts Rural Water Management Course

On Sunday, August 23rd, your Upperco Volunteers hosted a rural water management course, bringing together members and equipment from Baltimore, Carroll, and Howard Counties. The purpose of this course is to provide an opportunity for firefighters to learn and practice effective sourcing and moving water for fireground operations in non-hydranted areas.

Participants spent the early morning in the classroom, then moved outside for a full-scale drill where they practiced setup of draft sites, tanker operations, and portable folding tank supply operations.

Thanks to all of our career and volunteer partners for helping to make this a successful training event!

Upperco Volunteers Support Our Partners Across the County

Your Upperco volunteers are spending this rainy Sunday supporting our volunteer partners across the county, as Engine 852 is transferred to fill in the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue & Marine company during their concert event.

Meanwhile, additional volunteers are staffing Engine 851 back at our station, and took the opportunity to give our station a good cleaning.

Just another day of volunteers supporting our community and our neighbors and partners!

Upperco VFC Hosts Third Motorsports Event of 2026 Season!

Your Upperco volunteers spent a beautiful Saturday hosting the third Upperco Demolition Derby of our 2026 season. Hundreds of community members, racing team members, vendors, and volunteers came out to support the event, and it was another great success!

A very special thanks to our partners from Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company and Upperco VFC EMS members who provided standby emergency services to keep our racing personnel safe.

We sincerely appreciate all of your wonderful support, and hope to see everyone at our fourth and final event of the year, our October 17th Demolition Derby event!

Upperco volunteers respond to working building fire in Westminster

Shortly before 6pm Wednesday evening, Carroll County units were dispatched to the report of a building fire in downtown Westminster, at 27 Main St. First arriving units reported smoke from the roof of a mixed occupancy building with multiple residential units, and observed an individual on the roof, as well as multiple people on all floors of the building.

Seeing this, the box was upgraded to a rescue assignment, followed shortly by the Rapid Intervention Dispatch (RID) and Fire Task Force (FTF), bringing multiple additional units from surrounding companies and jurisdictions, including E852 from Upperco.

Upon arrival, E852 took a position to the rear of the involved building, and was eventually put to work assisting first in crews with opening up and other tasks.

Luckily, thanks to the actions of the responders, the fire was mostly contained to the roof area and no injuries were reported. E852 returned to service after about an hour.

Upperco E852 is currently operating at the scene of a working building fire at 27 Main St. in Westminster.

Units were alerted for smoke from the building, and arrived to find a fire in the roofline, with people trapped.

Units continue to operate at the scene at this time. Please stay clear of the area!
