This morning, we were blessed to hear a powerful message from Chief Billy Friend of the Wyandotte Nation.
Chief Friend shared that people often ask him if he believes in miracles. His answer is simple: “Yes!” He reminded us that the Old Mission Church itself is a miracle. Since 1824, generations of faithful people have cared for this sacred place because God placed it on their hearts to ensure that worship and ministry would continue on this holy ground.
Chief Friend expressed his gratitude, saying, “Tizameh,” the Wyandot word for “thank you,” to all those who have helped preserve the church throughout its history.
Reflecting on the legacy of John Stewart, Chief Friend shared how Stewart’s ministry helped pivot the Wyandot people, saying, “Our ancestors were changed here.” The impact of faith on this ground continues to be felt today focusing on the next 7 generations.
His sermon centered on the peace that comes from God. Through Scripture and personal reflection, Chief Friend encouraged us to remain focused on Christ, reminding us: “Jesus is still on your ship—don’t lose focus.”
He concluded with a timeless reminder inspired by John Stewart’s words: “Be faithful.”
As we leave today, may we carry these messages of gratitude, peace, faithfulness, and trust in God's presence with us throughout the week.
