This guy on the left, James E. Whitehead, Jr., ("My friends called Jimmy") came by the house to visit us a two weeks ago.

Thirty-one (31) years ago, he stood up for us, as the Best Man, when my Jacquie and I pledged our lives together and said "I do."

Many thanks to everyone who sent well wishes and birthday greetings. I am more than grateful for my family and my friends.

I signed up for Medicare yesterday. 65 times around the sun. I never thought about it or thought about getting here. I thought today about my dad and my mom and all the sacrifices they made that enables me today to live a very comfortable life. The older I get, as I look in the rearview mirror, the more I am appreciative and understand. And every older brother deserves a younger sister who can poke fun at him so he doesn't take himself too seriously. Leah Byrd is the best sister one can have. She has made her own way, and I am proud of her for doing it her way.

I only had one goal, early on from being a teenager. That goal was to make my mom and dad and my aunts and uncles proud. And I accomplished that goal a long time ago (and get a master's degree by the time I was 27. I did that too!).

Many thanks to Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) for giving me the opportunity the attend the top graduate program in the country for public relations and leave having been tutored by the four top academics in that field (Don Bagin, Don Gallagher, Tony Fulginiti, and Jack Gillespie). I considered my tour at Glassboro to be the turning point in my career.

I thought about getting a hot dog with mustard and some sauerkraut today (my guy James Jimmy Whitehead likes it with relish). Instead, I got a meatball sub at an Italian sub shop while Jacquie and I were in Annapolis).

Thanks to you all.

It has now been a little over one month since the Maryland Senate primary ended with the winners of both the Democrat and Republican Parties. Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks came from behind to beat Congressman David Trone, the $62 million man, going way by 13 points. Former MD Gov. Larry Hogan reentered the political arena on the last day of the filing deadline earlier this year and had no real opposition onto his primary victory. Both candidates will square off this November on what may determine control of the US Senate.

The voters of Prince George's County have a decision to make. Do they support former Gov. Hogan, who is from the County and whose father once served as its County Executive (the last Republican County Executive) or do they support the current County Executive, Angela Alsobrooks, in her second term who previously served as the County State's Attorney?

However, there is another looming issue that the voters may have missed and are not considering. Should County Exec Alsobrooks prevail and become the first black woman US Senator from Maryland, a trigger in the Prince George's County Charter comes into effect.

Section 407 of the Charter says that if Ms. Alsobrooks were to resign from her office in the first two years of her term (before Dec. 5th), the Chief Administrative Officer becomes Acting County Executive until the Council schedules a date for a special election of a new County Executive. Should Ms. Alsobrooks resign after Dec. 5th, say Dec. 31st before she is sworn in as a new US Senator representing Maryland, then the County Council shall, according to the Charter, select from among itself, by majority vote, a successor for the balance of the unexpired term. If the Council cannot decide among themselves who is the successor within 14 calendar days, then the Council Chair becomes County Executive for the remainder of the term.

What will Ms. Alsobrooks do? Those who plan on voting for her should ask themselves that question, as well as ask Ms. Alsobrooks while she is out there on the campaign trail. I would want to know. As Ms. Alsobrooks makes her case for a promotion to the US Senate, shouldn't Prince George's County voters also decide who should succeed her in a newly created vacancy?

Or do county voters want to experience horse trading among Council members and see if Councilwoman Jolene Ivey (District 5) and Councilman Calvin Hawkins (At Large) can count to six? I heard there was some heavy jockeying already at the ICSC Conference out there in Las Vegas several weeks ago. I wonder if the bookmakers down at MGM National Harbor have set the betting line yet (I prefer the horses myself). And now with Mel Franklin having resigned three days ago, what happens if the vote is a 5-5 tie? Dearest reader, call the County Attorney and ask as the Charter is silent on that one.

Excellent read.

The year 2019 will mark the 4th century that blacks walked the soil of the territory that would evolve into the United States. For most of that 400 years blacks would, largely, be considered property and less than human.

Rightly so.

GREAT AMERICA PAC EXPANDS TEAM
WITH ADDITION OF BATTLEGROUND STATE OUTREACH
AND NATIONAL COALITIONS OPERATIVE
AARON MANAIGO JOINS TO EXPAND ON AN ALREADY EXPERIENCED CAMPAIGN TEAM TO HELP WITH MESSAGING AND GOTV PROGRAMS

Alexandria, VA – Today Great America PAC, the leading independent committee supporting Donald J. Trump for President, announced Aaron T. Manaigo is joining the committee as a Sr. Advisor and Co Chair on battleground state coalitions, messaging, and ground campaign operations. Manaigo, based in Washington DC, has previously worked on the presidential campaigns of President George W Bush, Senator John McCain, and Herman Cain, serving as a senior advisor and national director of coalitions.
"Aaron's strong experience and background are a terrific fit for the programs we are running during the final months of this election," said Eric Beach. "We know his impact will be significant and we are proud to have him join our team."

Great America PAC is committed to impact the election and support Donald Trump by engaging minority cohort voters; Managio will help lead a national grassroots and grasstops effort, focusing on battleground states with high concentrations of minority voters.
"I'm proud to join Great America PAC and help expand upon the tremendous work they've been doing for months," said Managio. "Donald Trump has the right plan to create millions of new jobs, strengthen our economy, and support Americans in every community across the country. This stands in stark contrast to the failed policies and misguided approach that Hillary Clinton's candidacy represents."

Great America PAC is the premiere pro-Trump Super PAC led by veteran Republican strategist, Ed Rollins. The group has raised and spent over $7.5 million in support of Donald Trump’s candidacy, broadcasting more than 5,000 TV spots, secured over 125,000 donations, and built a file of millions of active, newly engaged Trump supporters across the country. Founded by businessman Bill Doddridge and Eric Beach, the committee recently named Stanley Hubbard, Chairman of Hubbard Broadcasting, and Doug Lebda, founder of LendingTree, as co-chairs.
