The PGDOC Training Academy has launched a brand-new computer training lab!

This addition reflects the academy’s continued growth and commitment to PGDOC’s mission of supporting professional development across the department.

Designed to support state, county, and department training needs, the lab provides a dedicated space with reliable technology to make completing required trainings easier and more accessible for everyone.

It removes common barriers like limited computer access and scheduling challenges, giving employees a convenient place to focus and succeed.

It supports modern training requirements and ensures academy recruits receive instruction using current technology standards.

In addition, the dedicated lab improves instructional efficiency, consistency, and long-term operational sustainability.

A special thank you to Lt. Weber and his Information Technology team for making this new addition possible.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has kicked off and the excitement has entered the walls of PGDOC.

A World Cup watch party was held in the Courtyard Cafe yesterday for the opening ceremonies and first game. The games will be continuously live streamed for staff through the tournament. Staff are also authorized to wear the colors or jersey of their favorite team on Fridays.

The World Cup highlights the melting pot inside of PGDOC with staff members from countries all over the world. As part of the World Cup festivities, an international potluck will also be held for staff.

Thank you to the Crisis Intervention Stress Management team for hosting these activities.

A lot of purple for this week’s Throwback Thursday picture.

In 2018, PGDOC started its annual Su***de Prevention Walk by participating in the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention walk at the National Harbor.

Since then, DOC has either hosted its own walk or collaborated with a local organization in September for National Su***de Prevention and Awareness Month.

Do you recognize anybody in this week’s throwback photo?

PGDOC staff took time to donate blood yesterday as part of PGPD Officer Bracey’s blood drive. The blood drive was held in memory of Officer Bracey’s sister, Lolisa Hardy, who passed away from blood cancer.

Thank you to Ms. Persaud and Ms. Dozier for taking time to donate blood. Each donation has the potential to save a life and support families walking through some of their hardest moments.

The academy is in full swing for Correctional Entry Level Training Class 2026-2 with the class’ graduation scheduled for July 17.

Director Clark recently addressed the class and spent time doing a question and answer session. The agency looks forward to watching these men and women grow throughout the academy as they learn how to be correctional officers.

The Department of Corrections holds facility-wide inspections every Tuesday morning to maintain order and safety, guarantee compliance with Departmental policies, identify hazards, prevent incidents and continuously improve the agency. The cleanest and most orderly housing unit(s) are identified as the “winner” of the week’s inspection and receive extended recreation and tablet time.

The incarcerated population has bought into the weekly inspections and many housing units go above and beyond on a weekly basis, attempting to showcase the cleanest unit. One housing unit during this week’s inspection demonstrated their creativity by folding towels on the bed into the shape of “PG”, which is short for Prince George’s County.

Since starting the weekly inspections in March of 2024, an attitude shift is noticeable among the incarcerated individuals, as many of them have taken more pride in their living quarters and understand the importance of keeping that area clean. Command staff also uses the inspections as an opportunity to converse with the incarcerated population and address Departmental concerns they may have.

Due to the cleanliness of the whole facility this week, every housing unit will get extended recreation and tablet time. Thank you to the staff members who conduct these vital inspections!

The annual Maryland Correctional Administrators’ Association’s Conference was a successful event with correctional professionals from across the state convening in Ocean City.

Along with the opportunity to attend numerous workshops, the conference also allowed Command Staff the ability to bounce ideas off their counterparts from neighboring jurisdictions.

Governor Wes Moore was also in attendance for the conference. Thank you to all the DOC staff who represented the agency at the annual conference and thank you to MCAA for the hospitality.

Congratulations to our third employee of the month, Property Officer Brown!

She is being recognized for an incident where an individual tried to smuggle contraband into the facility through a court clothing exchange. Property Officer Brown located the hidden drugs, confiscated the contraband and reported the incident up the chain of command.

Property Officer Brown’s dedication and training were evident in this situation. Her thorough inspection and diligence prevented contraband from entering the facility. Her actions contribute to the safety of staff and incarcerated individuals and reflect the high standards expected within the Department.

For these reasons, the Department of Corrections is proud to recognize Property Officer Brown as one of the June employees of the month.
