Yesterday 9/7, at 1820 hours, B-Platoon companies, along with Engine 20 were dispatched to 27 College Ave for the reported building fire. Squad 26 and Truck 37 arrived to find smoke showing from the second floor and roof. With that information Car 3 (Norris) asked for the working fire dispatch which brought additional companies to assist. Fire was found in the second floor ceiling and front window area. Squad 26 had first due engine; laid a supply line and stretched a hand line for fire attack. Truck 37 had first due Truck; forcible entry, search, pulling ceiling to reveal fire, and roof ventilation. Engine 36 had second due engine; stretched a second hand line through the rear of the house. Quint 74 had second due truck; assisting Truck 37 with their tasks and completing secondary searches. Engine 20 had third due engine; completing Squad 26s supply line and assisting with searching the houses directly next to the fire building and overhaul. We were assisted by our working fire companies in various fire ground tasks and restoring apparatus.

There are still seats available for our Fatal Fire Patterns and Explosions Class on September 8. Class is being held at the Delaware County Community College Southeast Center, 409 Lansdowne Ave, Drexel Hill.

Class is 830a-430p. Lunch is included!

Class cost is $100.

The class will also be “TESTED” hours for continuing education.

We’d like to congratulate our partners in blue who were promoted today, as well as welcome their newest officer to our Upper Darby family!

On Sunday morning, C Platoon companies conducted a drill on operating a moveable control point along Darby Creek. This training involves rigging a rope system anchored on both banks of the creek and tethering a rescue boat occupied by 1 or 2 rescuers to the system. This allows members on the ground to control movement of the boat both laterally across the water and downstream so that members on the boat can conduct a rescue. Once the victim is onboard, members on the ground reverse the process to bring the boat back upstream to the system and then to either bank of the creek to complete the rescue.

Yesterday was the swearing in for our newest Probationary Firefighter Jeffery Rodgers. Probationary Firefighter Rodgers recently completed the fire academy and will be starting next week at Squad 26 on the D Platoon. Here’s to a long, happy, healthy, and rewarding career!

As is tradition in the department, when a probationary firefighter runs their first working fire, they are presented the numbers of the company that they are assigned to. Last night was Gabe Leskusky’s first fire. He is currently assigned to Truck 37 on the B platoon under the guidance of Captain Dave Gallagher and firefighters Will Garges and Ryan Graf. Probationary FF Leskusky has been on the street for about a month and has already proved himself as a vital member to his crew and the entire department.

Last night around 11:45, township companies (B platoon on duty) and station 20 were dispatched to 501 Lansdowne Ave (vacant DelCo Memorial Hospital property) for the reported building fire. The 911 caller stated that smoke was coming from hospital. Truck 37, Squad 26, and UD Car 3 (Norris) arrived on location with smoke showing from the maintenance area. Engine 36, Quint 74, and Truck 37 worked together to force entry and stretch an attack line, while Squad 26 worked on finding a secondary entrance and stretching their own attack line. Due to the size of the building multiple mutual aid companies were dispatched to help with various fire ground tasks and supplying man power. It took several hours to bring the fire under control and do salvage and overhaul to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.
