Detweiller Marina Neighbors — Join Us for a Fun Community Event!
We’re looking for neighbors to help host a water station for the Steamboat Classic runners on Saturday, June 6, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in front of our home at 1525 Northeast Madison Avenue.
It’s always a fun and energetic event, and a great way to support the runners and show community spirit in our neighborhood! Volunteers can help hand out water, cheer on participants, and enjoy the excitement of race morning together.
Please remember to move your cars off Monroe and Madison Streets before the race begins.
Even if you can’t join us at the water station, we encourage everyone to come outside and cheer on the runners as they pass through our neighborhood!

Dear Supporters,

I want to let everyone know that I have officially filed a Petition for Relief from Judgment in the Peoria County Circuit Court regarding the Detweiller Playground Trust case. The filing has now been accepted by the Court.

This petition asks the Court to reopen and reconsider the prior judgment based on significant new information and concerns that were not fully presented or considered, including issues involving donor intent, public access, fiduciary responsibilities, conflicts of interest, and the lack of notice to affected users and stakeholders.

This is an important step toward ensuring that the full story is heard and that the interests of the people of Peoria, river users, trail users, neighbors, and future generations are properly represented.

We are also still actively seeking an attorney willing to represent me in these proceedings. If anyone knows of an attorney or legal organization experienced in charitable trust law, land use, nonprofit governance, donor intent, public access, or related litigation, please reach out.

I sincerely appreciate all of your support, advocacy, emails, attendance at meetings, document research, FOIA efforts, and public outreach. Every voice has mattered in getting us to this point.

This process is far from over, and time remains critical. Please continue contacting the Peoria Park District, City leaders, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to urge a full review of this matter and protection of access to Detweiller Playground and Marina.

Thank you again for standing together for transparency, accountability, donor intent, and preservation of this historic riverfront area.

North Valley Neighbors & Riverfront Supporters — We Need You 🚨

Community Meeting: Riverfront Park
📅 Monday, March 23
🕠 5:30 PM
📍 First United Methodist Church (116 NE Perry)

Join us to learn what’s happening with Detweiller Marina and Playgroud — and help decide what we do next.

👉 Why this matters:
About 10 years ago, our community came together to stop apartments from being built on Riverfront Park — a deal that was nearly finalized before the public even knew. Now, something similar may be unfolding again.

Since 1947, the land at the foot of Caroline Street has been protected for public access and recreation, thanks to Captain Thomas Detweiller. But recently:

• The Detweiller Playground Board moved to sell most of the land
• A court approved removing long-standing public-use protections
• Plans emerged to sell part of the property to O’Brien Steel
• Changes to the Rock Island Greenway may be required
• Public awareness only began in late February

⚠️ Key concerns:
• Lack of transparency
• No competitive bidding
• No exploration of public/community alternatives
• Potential conflicts of interest
• Risk of losing river access at Caroline Street

This is a pivotal moment.

Come hear what we know, share your voice, and help shape what happens next.
