The LiftWerx Flag of Adventure has arrived at another unique location! This time, the Flag has been raised at Phantom Lake, a remote wilderness lake located around 100 kilometres north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Proudly bearing the Flag is LiftWerx's Jay Bolhuis and his daughter, Amy.

Phantom Lake is a sub-alpine lake tucked deep in Canada's Sunshine Coast Mountains. It's glacial and snow-fed. Water feeds in from the glaciers of Mount Jimmy and Tzoonie Mountain at one end, while at the other end, it drains out over a towering cascading waterfall.

Like many glacial lakes in Canada's cordillera regions, the water colour is a stunning emerald colour. This radiant colouring is caused by fine "rock flour", a fine sediment which is deposited in the water by glacial ice, which stays suspended in the water and scatters light, producing that milky blue-green hue.

Despite the fact that it's located relatively close to a major city, Phantom Lake is a true wilderness lake. It has no official trails in, out, or at the lake, making it extremely difficult to access on foot. Ground access is a serious backcountry undertaking, requiring a five-day trip from Squamish over the Tantalus mountain range, involving heavy bushwhacking. There's essentially no permanent population or development around the lake, which is why most people, including Jay and Amy, prefer to arrive by float plane from the nearby town of Squamish.

We're proud and delighted to announce the launch of LiftWerx's newest innovation, the Shaftswapperâ„¢ device.

This below-the-hook lifting tool allows main shafts and main bearings to be fully exchanged in a single lift, without the need to lower the old shaft assembly to the ground. Using a RotorHookâ„¢ up-tower crane, we simply extract the old main shaft at the perfect drivetrain angle, rotate 180 degrees, and promptly install the new main shaft during the same operation.

This is an example of another LEAN initiative which is helping to make our repairs safer, quicker, and more efficient. Benefits are as follows:

1). We can avoid the use of several tons of counterweight which was previously required to extract the main shaft. In this new process, the new main shaft is used to balance the load on the hook.

2). Less equipment means less cargo to mobilize by truck, lower fuel consumption, and lower mobilization costs.

3). The avoidance of a heavy lift from every job saves time, risk, unnecessary hoisting operations, and rigging effort for our teams on the ground and in the nacelle.

Thanks to our employees and suppliers who helped to bring this to reality! The first device works very well, and we have already built a second one, which will be deployed shortly to another LiftWerx team.

Congratulations to LiftWerx's Team Kronos, who just completed another GE2.X main bearing exchange at a wind farm in the American West.

Team Kronos is a relatively new team, having been launched only six months ago. They are equipped with a brand new RotorHookâ„¢ crane kit, a Liebherr assist crane, and a world-class toolkit.

Despite its young age, this team has an impressive track record, having already performed 28 rotor lifts across the USA in seven different states: Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. In addition to these rotor lifts, this team has exchanged dozens of main bearings, main shafts, and pitch bearings along the way.

For those who are still doubting the efficiency of crane-less technology, you can be assured that this is the way of the future. These operations are faster, safer, and higher quality. And due to the minimal amount of equipment, these operations are also available at a lower mobilization cost compared to utilizing traditional cranes.

Historically, our company was mainly focused on changing wind turbine gearboxes. Today, with a total of twelve teams across North America, our repairs have become far more diverse. Let's just say that we're not just a gearbox exchange company anymore.

We focus on the most complex wind turbine repairs, in order that we provide the highest value to our customers.

Here in 2026, we exchange far more pitch bearings than gearboxes, most of them on wind turbines in the 2MW to 3MW range. On most projects, we utilize our RotorHookâ„¢ up-tower cranes to carefully lower each fully-assembled rotor from the nacelle, so that the blades can be removed and pitch bearings can easily be exchanged at ground level, and avoiding delays caused by higher winds at hub height.

We also exchange main bearings, blades, and generators.

And we still exchange plenty of gearboxes, of course.

We don't need a main lift crane.

We don't need a tailing crane.

We don't require road permits, civil work, or matting on the ground.

We enjoy total stability, with no risk of ground failure. And on this type of operation, we don't need to worry about the risk of cranes tipping over.

We focus on performing high-quality wind turbine repairs in the safest, smartest, and most efficient ways. And at the same time, we're minimizing the amount of equipment, our carbon footprint, our mobilization cost, and the disruption to landowners' valuable property.

As wind turbines grow in size, height, and complexity, this is the way of the future.

This is a gearbox exchange on a GE2.3-116 wind turbine, performed with a brand new GenHookâ„¢ up-tower crane system.
