Sunrise Movement Twin Cities Sunrise is a movement of young people uniting to stop the climate crisis and create millions of good- We see ourselves as part of the political revolution.

Across the country, a surge of teens and twenty-somethings are getting politically involved for the first time. We don’t see a reason to choose between working on elections and creative protest—it’s obvious that both are needed. And we’re unafraid to take on entrenched elites from any political party.

2018 will be the the year when climate change finally matters in our elections. The Twin Cities hub will be planning and coordinating local actions from June 2017 through April 2018 to:

(1) highlight climate impacts already being felt across the U.S. (2) call out fossil fuel CEOs and politicians who are deliberately fueling this crisis, and
(3) spread the word about Sunrise and recruit for the nonviolent army

MAYDAY EVENT ALERT

This is your personal invitation to the “Pollinators & Palmers” May Day extravaganza full of plants, tea, and lemonade! This Friday, May 1st, from 2-4pm (after our teach-in), we will gather at 1657 Lincoln Ave (the Office of Sustainability) to convert a monocrop of Kentucky Bluegrass (aka lawn) into a lovely pollinator garden.

In a fabulous partnership between the Sunrise Movement, the Office of Sustainability, the Grounds Department, and you all, the lawn will be transformed into a humming ecosystem filled with serviceberry bushes, evergreens, native grasses, and bee lawn. This has been a long time in the making and is situated as one end point of a larger pollinator corridor being sewn between Mac and St. Thomas! Please come swing by for any or all of the festivity amidst a big day of action.

We encourage you to do at least TWO of these options (or anything related to Mayday including protests). The links for certain actions will also be accessible on our linktree in our bio.

NOTE: Bridge Brigade will be at First Bridge Park in Downtown Minneapolis at 8AM (message us for more coordination)

‼️EVENT ALERT‼️ In a partnership with Singing Resistance, the Sunrise Movement is planning a singing circle and art build for Earth Day, April 22nd!

We will gather at the flagpole (a historic place of resistance?) and share an hour of song followed by an hour of poster building. Some friends from the Minneapolis Sunrise Hub will come to support the art build portion!

May we find deep root in this space and moment with one another – may we sing liberation into action. Our relationship with land, or better, our oneness with it, is central to our collective organizing of research, faith, protest, art, sports, work, life, for environmental justice.

You are invited! Your people, family and friends are too! We want to bring the community into common space!

Come hear the inside scoop that they don’t teach us in school on ways to advocate for climate justice and lower energy bills through democratizing our electric utility system.

Energy Democracy staff from the organization “Community Power” will be sharing a popular community education event with additional partner organizations. At the end, there will also be a networking opportunity with community members who are involved locally. Knowledge is power!
