Yesterday, we officially cut the ribbon for the Ford Field Park Gateway project. I was able to secure over $900,000 in funding to help complete this project, which creates an ADA accessibility pathway for all to enjoy Ford Field Park and connectivity to the entire river walk which is taking shape where Northville Downs used to be.

Yesterday was our ceremonial bill signing for my bill which was a part of a bipartisan bill package to ensure members of the Michigan National Guard and military reserves do not have to use their vacation time in order to perform their military service. You won’t find a better example of constituent advocacy than Katie and Shanel! They are on a mission to ensure every child across Michigan gets recess at school. Through their work at Say Yes to Recess Michigan, they have mobilized families across the state to achieve this goal. They approached me about legislation which led to HB 5794, sets as a minimum of 40 minutes of recess per day for every child kindergarten through 5th grade.

Today was the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony in the House. My favorite part of the tradition is that we are able to invite a local first responder. This year, I invited Rob Casamatta, Michigan National Guardsman and Northville Township Firefighter. It was an honor to welcome him as my guest today.

Tonight, I attended the annual USA Hockey's NTDP Playing with a Purpose game to end distracted driving. In 2023, I worked with Chairman of The Kiefer Foundation, my friend Steve Kiefer on Michigan’s hands-free law, making cell phone use while driving illegal. Steve lost his son, Mitchel to a distracted driving accident and turned that tragedy into a mission to save lives by ending distracted driving.

The data returned has shown a reduction in distracted driving accidents by as much as 20%. This law save law lives. When you drive, remember to put the phone down and .
