Parent Newsletter — October 26–30, 2026

Theme: Not-So-Spooky Halloween! 🎃🦇🕷️

Happy Monday, families! 🧡 This week we’re getting into the Halloween spirit with a Not-So-Spooky Halloween theme! Our focus will be on silly, friendly, and fun Halloween activities rather than anything scary. We’ll enjoy stories, art, science, movement, counting, and hands-on activities designed for our Toddlers, Early Preschoolers, and Preschoolers.

👻 What We’re Learning This Week

Monday — Friendly Ghosts 👻
We’ll kick off the week with some silly ghost fun! We’ll explore white and black, shapes, counting, movement, and positional words while pretending to float like friendly little ghosts.

Tuesday — Bats at Night 🦇🌙
We’ll discover some interesting things about bats! Our younger children will focus on bats, nighttime, and movement, while our Preschoolers learn simple facts about bats, including that they’re mammals and many are active at night.

Wednesday — Silly Spiders 🕷️🕸️
We’ll investigate spiders and their webs while practicing counting, fine motor skills, patterns, and early science. We’ll also learn that spiders have eight legs!

Thursday — Silly Monsters & Costumes 👹🎭
It’s time to use our imaginations! We’ll create silly monsters while exploring colors, shapes, body parts, and numbers. We’ll also talk about costumes and how dressing up lets us pretend to be someone or something different.

Friday — Halloween Fun! 🎃👻🎉
We’ll wrap up our week with Halloween-themed games, music, movement, stories, crafts, counting, and lots of not-so-spooky fun!

Throughout the week, we’ll continue building early literacy, vocabulary, counting, color and shape recognition, fine and gross motor skills, listening, following directions, creativity, and social-emotional skills.

🎭 Halloween Costumes

Children are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes on Thursday, Friday, or BOTH days! 🎃👻 We know that some of our friends do not attend on Fridays, so we want everyone to have a chance to join in the costume fun!

Please make sure costumes are child-care friendly and comfortable enough for playing and participating in our normal daily activities. 🧡

Theme: Pumpkin Patch Fun! 🎃🍂

Happy Tuesday, families! ❤️ This week we’re continuing our fall learning with Pumpkin Patch Fun! The children will have opportunities to explore real pumpkins through hands-on science, sensory play, math, stories, art, and fine motor activities. Activities will be adjusted for our Toddlers, Early Preschoolers, and Preschoolers.

🎃 What We’re Learning This Week

Tuesday — All About Pumpkins 🎃
We’ll explore real pumpkins and compare their colors, shapes, sizes, textures, and stems. We’ll learn new pumpkin vocabulary and practice describing what we notice.

Wednesday — Inside a Pumpkin 🔎
What’s hiding inside? We’ll open a real pumpkin and investigate the seeds, pulp, flesh, skin, and stem. The children will have a chance to touch and explore the inside for a fun sensory experience!

Thursday — How Pumpkins Grow 🌱🎃
We’ll discover how a tiny pumpkin seed can eventually become a pumpkin! We’ll explore the pumpkin life cycle from seed → sprout → vine → flower → pumpkin.

Friday — Pumpkin Science & Fun 🧪🎃
We’ll wrap up our week with pumpkin-themed counting, sorting, measuring, and experimenting. Our Preschoolers will make predictions and test some of their ideas while our younger children enjoy hands-on pumpkin exploration.

Throughout the week, we’ll also work on fine motor skills, early literacy, counting, vocabulary, sensory exploration, following directions, observation, and early science concepts.

Theme: Apple Adventures! 🍏🍎

Happy Monday, families! ❤️ This week we are celebrating fall with an Apple Adventures theme! We’ll explore apples through hands-on learning, stories, art, science, counting, and sensory experiences. Our activities will be adjusted for our Toddlers, Early Preschoolers, and Preschoolers so everyone can participate at their own developmental level.

🍎 What We’re Learning This Week

Monday — All About Apples 🍎
We’ll explore different colors, shapes, and sizes of apples and learn some new apple vocabulary.

Tuesday — Apple Trees 🌳
Where do apples come from? We’ll learn about apple trees and how an apple grows from a tiny seed.

Wednesday — Inside an Apple 🔎
We’ll investigate a real apple and discover its skin, flesh, stem, core, and seeds.

Thursday — Apple Science & Senses 🧪
We’ll explore apples by looking, touching, smelling, and tasting! We’ll compare different apples and talk about what we notice.

Friday — Apple Fun & Review 🍏🎉
We’ll finish our week with apple-themed counting, sorting, games, and a review of everything we’ve discovered!

Throughout the week, we’ll also continue working on fine motor skills, early literacy, counting, colors, vocabulary, following directions, independence, and social-emotional development.

This week at Small Steps Daycare & Preschool, our preschool theme is My Family! We’ll be learning about the special people in our lives and discovering that every family is unique. Families can be big or small, live together or in different homes, and include many different people who love and care for one another. ❤️

Throughout the week, we’ll explore families through circle time, stories, art, fine-motor activities, music, movement, and dramatic play. Our toddlers will participate with simple family words, pictures, songs, and hands-on activities appropriate for their age.

This week at Small Steps Daycare & Preschool, our preschool theme is All About Me! ❤️ We’ll spend the week learning more about ourselves and celebrating all the wonderful things that make each child unique.

Throughout the week, the children will explore their names, ages, physical features, favorite things, abilities, and individual qualities through stories, circle time, art, music, movement, and hands-on activities. Our toddlers will participate through simple songs, movement, mirrors, pictures, and age-appropriate activities.

Hello Families!

We are so excited to officially begin our 2026–2027 Preschool Year! 🎉 This first week will be all about helping the children become familiar and comfortable with our preschool routine while introducing them to all the fun learning experiences we have ahead of us.

We’ll keep our first week relaxed, positive, and fun as we learn how our preschool day works. ❤️

🍎 Our First Week of Preschool

Monday – Welcome to Our Preschool! 🎒
We’ll kick off our first day by learning about preschool! We’ll explore our learning areas, introduce our preschool routine, and practice coming together for circle time, story time, and activities.

Tuesday – Our Classroom & School Supplies ✏️🖍️
We’ll explore the tools we’ll use throughout the year, including crayons, pencils, scissors, glue, books, and other classroom materials. We’ll practice how to use and care for our supplies.

Wednesday – Learning Is Fun! 🔤🔢
We’ll get a little taste of all the fun learning ahead! We’ll explore letters, numbers, colors, shapes, books, songs, art, and hands-on activities without focusing too heavily on any one skill just yet.

Thursday – Preschool Routines & Independence 🌟
We’ll practice some of the everyday skills that help our preschool day run smoothly, such as cleaning up, putting materials away, following simple directions, taking care of our belongings, and becoming more independent.

Friday – We Are Preschoolers! 🎉📚
We’ll celebrate completing our first week of preschool! We’ll review what we learned about our preschool day, talk about our favorite parts of the week, and enjoy a special first-week activity.

🌟 Skills We’ll Be Building

Throughout the week, we’ll begin working on listening and following directions, language and communication, early literacy and math, fine and gross motor development, independence, classroom routines, and learning through play.

Our toddlers and younger children will join in with age-appropriate activities, songs, movement, stories, and hands-on exploration, so everyone gets to be part of the fun! 🧸🎶

Weekly Newsletter: Late Summer Nature Week! 🐿️🌿

Hello Families!

We hope everyone enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend! Since we were closed Monday, we have a fun four-day week ahead of us. This week, we’ll be heading outdoors and exploring some of the wonderful things we can find in nature as summer slowly begins to transition toward fall. ☀️🍃

🌿 This Week’s Adventures

Tuesday – Squirrels & Woodland Friends 🐿️🐇
We’ll learn about squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, and other little animals we may see outdoors. We’ll explore how they move, what they eat, and where they live.

Wednesday – Seeds & Sunflowers 🌻
We’ll take a closer look at beautiful sunflowers and their seeds while practicing counting, sorting, colors, and learning how seeds help new plants grow.

Thursday – Birds in Our Backyard 🐦🪺
We’ll explore birds, feathers, nests, beaks, and bird sounds. We’ll also have fun pretending to flap and fly like our feathered friends!

Friday – Signs of a Changing Season ☀️🍃🍂
We’ll become nature detectives and look for signs that summer is beginning to change into fall. We’ll explore leaves, plants, seeds, weather, and other changes we notice outdoors.

Throughout the week, we’ll work on language and vocabulary, counting and sorting, early science, observation skills, fine and gross motor development, listening, and imaginative play.

Hello Families!

This week, we’re heading to the pond for a fun-filled Pond Life adventure! The children will discover some of the amazing animals and insects that make their homes in and around ponds. Through stories, songs, movement, art, sensory play, and hands-on activities, we’ll explore everything from hopping frogs to swimming turtles and waddling ducks!

🌿 This Week’s Pond Adventures

Monday – Fabulous Frogs 🐸
We’ll hop like frogs, explore lily pads, and learn a little about how frogs live and grow.

Tuesday – Terrific Turtles 🐢
We’ll discover turtles and their shells while exploring concepts like hard/soft, big/small, and slow/fast.

Wednesday – Ducks at the Pond 🦆
We’ll waddle, quack, count ducks, and learn about ducks and their ducklings.

Thursday – Pond Bugs & Little Critters 🪷
We’ll meet dragonflies, snails, water bugs, and other tiny creatures found around a pond.

Friday – Pond Life Adventure 💦🐸
We’ll bring everything together with pond-themed games, songs, movement, and imaginative play.

Throughout the week, we’ll work on language and vocabulary, counting, colors, early science, animal recognition, fine and gross motor development, and imaginative play with activities adapted for each age group.

🌎✈️ Weekly Newsletter: Around the World Adventure! ✈️🌎

Hello Families!

This week, we’re packing our imaginary suitcases and heading on an Around the World Adventure! 🌎 The children will use their imaginations to “travel” to different places while exploring animals, nature, music, movement, and more.

Our goal this week is to make learning feel like one big summer adventure! ☀️

✈️ Monday – Pack Our Bags & Take Off!
We’ll pretend to pack for a trip, board an airplane, and begin our journey around the world.

🏝️ Tuesday – Tropical Island Adventure
We’ll explore tropical fruits, palm trees, beaches, island animals, and music.

🦁 Wednesday – African Safari
We’ll go on a pretend safari and discover lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and other amazing animals.

🌿 Thursday – Rainforest Adventure
We’ll venture into the rainforest to learn about monkeys, parrots, frogs, sloths, and other rainforest creatures.

🌎 Friday – Around-the-World Celebration
We’ll revisit our favorite adventures from the week with music, movement, games, and lots of imaginative play!

Throughout the week, we’ll be working on language and vocabulary, colors, counting, animal recognition, geography awareness, gross and fine motor development, creativity, and social skills through age-appropriate activities.

We can’t wait to see where our adventures take us! 🌎✈️🦒🐒🏝️

Preschool School Supply List ✏️🍎

As we get ready to begin our new preschool year, here are a few supplies each child will need:

✏️ Pencil case
✂️ Child-safe scissors
🖍️ Crayons
🖍️ Washable markers
✏️ Pencils
🧴 Glue sticks
📁 2 folders with pockets
📓 Spiral notebook
🎨 Watercolor paint set
💧 Reusable water bottle labeled with your child’s name
👕 Extra set of clothes labeled with your child’s name
🎒 Backpack large enough to hold a folder and projects

Please label your child’s personal supplies with their name whenever possible.

♻️ There is no need to buy everything new! If your child still has their pencil case, scissors, or folders from last year and they are in good condition, they are more than welcome to reuse them again this year.

💛 Optional Classroom Donations

Donations are always appreciated, but never expected or required! We go through quite a bit of these items throughout the year, so if anyone would like to donate, we can always use:
