Our mission is to serve our user base and provide information and guidance to our users around financial aid programs. The site was born after personal experience from our staff members and editorial contributors and our dedication to helping our community skip the mistakes that we have made in the past. My personal experience dates back to the final semester of my Senior year of college. I had been self-funding my education over the past several years. I was both unaggressive in learning about my student aid options and lacked guidance from any counselor or family member that alerted me to federal programs that would help me pay for my education. Nevertheless, I was riding as a passenger in my friend’s car who just so happened to have received a check from the federal government that day for about $5k. Free money from the government?* This friend came from a family who was not hurting financially. Plus, he was on a football scholarship at our school. Why was I not receiving this same grant? I should have taken the time to understand the system better. Back then there weren’t websites that pointed out the details and deadlines of financial aid.
