1st Americans Heritage We all know some of us were born on the Reservation and some of us are American born, but the thread that binds us together is our heritage.

Let’s face it we all know some of us were born on the Reservation and some us were born on American soil, but the thread that binds us together is our heritage. Yes, we have casinos, but they do not define us! We enjoy great food, a respect for nature, arts and culture, but there is so much more of our world to share.

Voices from the Grave – Spring Spirits Rising

The Dead would like to have some words with you…
And so begins a cemetery walk at Sedona’s oldest cemetery, the Schuerman Red Rock Cemetery, on April 29 & 30. Travel back in time to meet some the brave souls who experienced triumph and tragedy, while carving out a life in Red Rock country. “Voices from the Grave-Spring Spirits Rising” is an open-air cemetery tour with re-enactments by professional actors. The show will include musical interludes, and all ticket holders will receive a ‘swag’ bag of gifts and treats.

The pioneers (and the actors portraying them) who will share their stories are:

Apollonia Chavez (Mindy Mendelsohn)
Jesse James Elmer (John Neville)
Samuel Lafayette Jones (Tom Jepperson)
Gertrude Anna Young Kurtz (Jawn McKinley)
Dorette Johanna Titgemeyer Schuerman (Joan Westmoreland)
John James Thompson (Gerard Maguire)

Proceeds will benefit care and maintenance of the Society’s two historic cemeteries.

This program is not recommended for children under 13 years of age.

Iwigara explores 150 plants of key importance to American Indians. Enrique Salmón reveals how the plants were traditionally used, why they were used that way, what their health and medicinal applications and benefits are, and basic scientific data about each plant. An added layer of meaningful context comes via traditional stories and myths the author shares about these plants and images of the plants appearing in different forms of Native American art, craft, and homes.
