Promenade Park was filled with chalk, memories and stories as our community came together for the 8th annual Chalk the Walk in downtown Toledo.

Vendors, partners, speakers and community members joined together to honor the lives of loved ones lost to overdose and remember the impact they made on the people and community around them.

From heartfelt messages and drawings to the names shared during the remembrance ceremony, every mark on the pavement told a story and served as a reminder that every life matters.

Thank you to our partners with the Lucas County Substance Use Coalition for hosting this meaningful event alongside us, and to everyone who came out, shared a memory or submitted a name to be remembered. NOSS/Harm Reduction

Today, we were joined by U.S. Deputy Surgeon General, Rear Admiral Paul Jung along with partners from the City of Sandusky and Erie County, and members of Toledo City Council, Sandusky City Schools, and the TLCHD Board for the launch of the 'Great Health for America' initiative. The Toledo and Sandusky-area launch is part of a $32 million, two-year demonstration across four pilot communities, with each receiving $4 million per year. Great Health for America will focus on improving child health and reducing chronic disease risk.

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month!

Breastfeeding has been shown to reduce the risk of several childhood illnesses & conditions including asthma, obesity, Type 1 diabetes, ear & respiratory infections, and SIDS. Research also shows that mothers who breastfeed have a lowered risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.

📢TLCHD is urging Lucas County residents with confirmed cyclosporiasis to complete a survey from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) to support the outbreak investigation. These individuals will receive a text message from ODH with a unique link to complete the survey.

🚨 Air Quality Advisory for Ohio 🚨

The Ohio EPA has issued an Air Quality Advisory due to smoke from Canadian wildfires impacting air quality across the state. Air quality may reach the "Unhealthy" range, which can affect everyone's health—especially those most at risk, including children, older adults and those with asthma, COPD, heart disease or other respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. Please avoid strenuous outdoor activities, shorten time spent outdoors, or wait outside until conditions improve.

The advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve. Stay informed by monitoring local air quality updates at www.AirNow.gov and following guidance from the Ohio EPA.
