WCAG guidance may continue to evolve, but one thing has not changed: the deadline for accessible digital content is approaching quickly for state and local government organizations.

Accessibility cannot be treated as a last-minute checkbox. The most effective and sustainable approach is building accessibility directly into daily workflows through training, awareness, and practical implementation.

Yesterday's GAAD event University of Denver was a powerful reminder of the importance of listening, learning, and amplifying lived experiences. The stories shared throughout the event were honest, impactful, and deeply moving, reinforcing the message of “Nothing About Us Without Us.”

Words matter. Small changes in communication can make a big difference in helping Deaf and hard of hearing individuals feel included, respected, and connected.

Deaf Awareness Week is a reminder that accessibility starts with everyday interactions. Inclusion is not complicated. It begins with patience, understanding, and making space for everyone to participate in the conversation.
