The Glen Ellyn Police Department has announced plans for Independence Day traffic enforcement with a focus on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The safety campaign will run from June 19 through July 6 to encompass three summer weekends leading up to and after the holiday.

The Glen Ellyn Police Department will join the Illinois State Police and more than 200 local police and sheriff’s departments for the increased statewide enforcement effort.

Other important tips include:

• Give your designated driver your keys before you go out.
• If you are drunk or impaired by cannabis or other drugs, call a taxi, take mass transit, use your favorite ride-sharing service or call a sober friend or family member to get you home safely.
• Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and dialing 911.
• Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. Not only is it the law, it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.

The Illinois Independence Day enforcement campaign is funded with federal highway safety dollars administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and supported by the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state. It’s reinforced with IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign, which shares real stories of Illinois residents lost in fatal crashes.

Law Enforcement Civilian Personnel Appreciation Week

June 7–13, 2026, has been designated by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police as Law Enforcement Civilian Personnel Appreciation Week, recognizing the civilian professionals whose work is essential to the success of law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois.

At the Glen Ellyn Police Department, our civilian employees play a critical role in supporting the services we provide every day. Every phone call answered, report processed, record maintained, permit issued, and administrative task completed helps ensure our department operates efficiently and effectively.

While much of their work takes place behind the scenes, its impact is felt throughout the organization. Their professionalism, expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to public service help support our officers and ensure that we can continue to meet the needs of our community.

This week, we proudly recognize and thank our civilian personnel for the important contributions they make each day. Your dedication, hard work, and service are valued and appreciated, and we are grateful to have you as part of our team.

We are proud to recognize the outstanding civilian professionals who help make the Glen Ellyn Police Department a stronger organization every day. Thank you for all that you do!

The Glen Ellyn Police Department is announcing the results of its Memorial Day 2026 “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign. This campaign is aimed at increasing seat belt use and keeping roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

During the campaign, The Glen Ellyn Police Department took the following actions:
• 3 seat belt citations issued.
• 8 DUI arrests.
• 6 felony arrests.
• 1 stolen vehicle recovered.
• 1 fugitive apprehended.
• 6 suspended/revoked license actions.
• 7 uninsured motorist citations.
• 25 speeding citations.

The campaign’s success reflects law enforcement's commitment to roadway safety and reinforces the message that buckling up saves lives.

📊 Did you know? Illinois seat belt use went from 16% in 1985 to 93% in 2025. Keep improving safety — buckle up every trip!

The Glen Ellyn Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign running May 15-26 during the Memorial Day travel period.

Officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement day and night, focusing on seat belt violations. Motorists who fail to buckle up can expect to be stopped and ticketed.

Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. While usage has increased to 93% in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a concern — especially at night.

The “Click It or Ticket” initiative is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For more information on safe driving practices, visit www.itsnotagameillinois.com
