***UPDATED LINK Witness Slips Urgently Needed to OPPOSE HB3169***
https://ilga.gov/house/hearings/details/3103/22449/CreateWitnessSlip/?legislationId=161582&GaId=18&View=Create
As you can see, HB3169 dramatically increases the type of supposed "medical professionals" who can be $CONTRACTED$ by DCFS to "provid[e] an opinion to the Department regarding whether the child's injury or condition is suspicious for child maltreatment."
Let me break it down for you:
DCFS most likely thinks there is a serious shortage Child Abuse Pediatricians. And, most doctors don't want to go into the so-called "specialty" of child abuse diagnosis/identification. So, DCFS likely wants the zealot Child Abuse Pediatricians to help TRAIN UP nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, residents, or subspecialists to become "experts" at identifying child abuse. And, when that small army of "child abuse medical professionals" get CONTRACTED BY DCFS and start examining Illinois children and then form their "expert" medical opinion that a "child's injury or condition is suspicious for child maltreatment" Illinois parents can go try to find their own expert for a second opinion and pay out of pocket to defend themselves. And, in my well-informed opinion, those Illinois parents, with a second expert medical opinion for which they had to pay, are also going to need a lawyer because they will be fighting to defend themselves in court.
Illinois Parents need to nip this HB3169 nonsense in the bud: Only doctors should be providing DCFS with expert medical opinions as to whether your child's injury or condition is "suspicious for child maltreatment". If that happens, you will probably be A LOT less likely to need that second opinion HB3169 is supposedly now guaranteeing you.
