Founded in 1956, the Penn State University Ambulance Service (UAS) is a 24/7 emergency medical service providing emergency 911 coverage to University Park, PA. UAS is comprised of both students and administrators who are dedicated to making a positive contribution to the Penn State campus and its surrounding areas through round-the-clock emergency care, community outreach, and continuing education opportunities. Ambulance crews are staffed with Penn State students who are certified EMS providers in the State of Pennsylvania. Students begin at UAS as probationary volunteer EMTs who strive to complete the volunteer program and be promoted to paid crew members. In addition to our regular crew of student EMTs, the University Ambulance Service (UAS) hires a dedicated cohort of event staff who assist with staffing needs to provide patient care at a variety of events on campus. The service operates three ambulances, and has an assortment of utility vehicles for use during special events. UAS responds to approximately 1400 incidents annually. In addition to 911 coverage, UAS provides EMS standby coverage to special events such as THON, concerts at the Bryce Jordan Center, PA Special Olympics, and to all PSU NCAA sporting events including football at Beaver Stadium, one of the largest stadiums in the world.
