Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him.

It’s the time for giving and like many I believe in supporting the worthy causes of others. Today I’m asking on behalf of the “Respond to Violence” educational scholarship at Governors State University to benefit students who have been impacted by violence and want to work to do something about it. Any amount is appreciated! Linked below is the giving form below. Please make sure the “Respond to Violence Scholarship” is selected in the drop down menu. Thank you for your support!

Last night, Respond To Violence presented Transformative Justice: Turning Pain into Power! featuring a heartfelt interview with Ms. Anjanette Young, a social worker who was wrongly targeted and victimized by the Chicago Police Department, followed by a panel discussion on the historical systemic injustice within police culture, its impact on community mental health and how collectively we can harness our power to create change through advocacy and policy. Audience Q&A to follow.

The event was sponsored by Governors State University's Department of Social Work, Department of Digital Learning & Media Design, and Social Justice Initiative.
