Very few elementary teachers get to spend year after year with the same students, watching them grow up, witnessing them change and falter and blossom from timid kindergartners to confident, capable pre-teens. Even the most impactful classroom teachers only spend one year with each cohort of students.
But “specials” teachers, the ones who teach art and music, PE and foreign languages? Well, their situation is special. They form years-long relationships with students and their families, nurturing their talents, bringing them out of their shells and into themselves as they move from grade to grade.
And perhaps none more so than Tamar Gray, who is retiring this spring after teaching music for 42 years, 37 of them in the CH-UH district and 35 of them at Fairfax School. Ms. Gray, who began her career as Ms. Jenkins, has also taught at Canterbury, Noble, Oxford, and Rox El, and currently splits her week between Fairfax and Boulevard. >> https://bit.ly/49KxwnD
