The 2026 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show & STEM Expo brought 40,000 of our neighbors to the skies above St. Louis — and behind the scenes, an extraordinary team of partners was working together to make sure every single one of them went home safe.

For EMS, Monarch FPD was honored to lead EMS operations for the region's largest airshow. Here's what that looked like on the ground:

✅ 4 Monarch mobile EMS transport carts covering the grounds
✅ WashU Medicine docs on site running a 10-bed medical treatment tent
✅ St. Luke's is operating a first aid tent for the community
✅ Central County 911 Dispatch on site with a pre-built location grid and What3Words for precise patient location
✅ 75+ patient encounters tracked seamlessly through Pulsara — a statewide MCI platform also being used across the country, including the upcoming FIFA events.

Pulsara was a game-changer. Every patient encounter was documented from first contact to final disposition, giving every team real-time visibility. It also gave our crews invaluable training on MCI software that could one day make the difference in a major emergency.

We are so proud to serve this community. And we are grateful for partners who share that same commitment.

Blue Angels overhead, our team on the ground. 🔵🇺🇸

The WashU EMS Physicians teamed up with Monarch Fire Protection District for physician-led medical coverage at the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show, headlined by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.

Physician-level care on the flight line: a field hospital, a quick-response unit, and technology linking our crews to a physician in real time through a long, hot day.

Small-world moment: the Blue Angels' flight surgeon, Capt. Jen Murr, was Dr. Jeff Siegler's co-chief resident!

When the medical director volunteers to demo “rapid cooling techniques”… 😅💦

Dr. Mike DeFilippo (WashU EM + EMS Medical Director, Warren County Ambulance District) survived the splash to bring you his top summer safety reminders: wear a helmet, drink water before you’re thirsty, know the signs of heat illness (dizzy, confused, no longer sweating = call 911).

Christian Hospital EMS gave their crews a full week of EMS Week activities this year!

Low-light airway training on manikins. Surgical airway and wound packing on tissue. Full-team trauma scenarios running out of the ambulance bay.

A big thank-you to WashU EMS Physician and CHEMS Medical Director, Dr. Kroll! She was in the scenarios, hands on the gear, and competing and learning right alongside them. We are proud to have her as part of our group (see if you can spot Dr. Kroll in the video)!

Thank you for sharing EMS Week with us, Dr. Kroll. We are already excited to see what CHEMS comes up with next year!

On this Memorial Day, WashU EMS Physicians honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice represents the very best of courage, duty, and selflessness.

We are grateful to the fallen, to their families, and to all who continue to serve in their memory.

Happy EMS Week from WashU EMS Physicians!!!

Stop by the BJH EMS Bay today from noon until 9 PM-ish for BBQ and a chance to spend some time with our EMS team. Drs. Svancarek, Siegler, and Kroll, along with our EMS Liaison Brody, will be out there throughout the day (we had some fun with AI on the 2nd picture).

We are grateful for the EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, nurses, physicians, and EMS partners who care for our community every day. Come by, grab a plate, and let us say thank you in person.
