Our bimonthly Senior Socials are starting up again on the 24th. Please note the new day of the week (Thursdays) and our new meeting location into November (Unity Historical Society). We will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.

For this first meeting we will have games for those who want to play, light refreshments, and plenty of time to talk. (f you lived in Unity when the building on the corner of Main and School Streets was a drugstore, plan to bring some memories to share!)

Another section planted! Thanks to Cathy Berto, owner of Rooted &Refined for doing the honors today. Just three sections left to plant, hopefully by the end of next week, and the Girl Scouts plan to plant flowers in the planter at the entrance this month.

FIELD OF DREAMS FYI For those of you who are interested in the future of Field of Dreams (now that the Town of Unity has the park back from Unity College) you can make a tax-deductible donation at the Unity Town Office. Just let them know it is for the Field of Dreams fund, which is currently being set up at the bank. Eventually, Unity Parks and Rec will take over the management of the park (and the fund), but if you've been to Field of Dreams lately you can see that some much needed improvements are already underway. I love to walk there and am very glad the park is now back under local control.

There are several dozen daylilies left from the recent planting at the Field of Dreams, and i hate to keep them out of the ground until our last volunteers can get to them. So if you are interested in a nice selection of colors (not labeled but including a double peach, purple, light purple, yellow, orange, red and more) these are available in mixed lots of a baker’s dozen for a $20 donation to the Unity Parks and Recreation Committee. Email unityparksand [email protected] if interested. Don’t miss out!

The unsung hero in the daylily plantings is a layer of thick cardboard which is used to suppress the w**ds. That layer is covered with soil, plants and mulch so that isn't visible. It takes a LOT of cardboard to cover the sections, and UPRC appreciates Mac's Hardware, the Unity Regional Recycling Center and Uncle Dean's in Waterville for allowing us to pirate their bins.

Yesterday Rooster and Ben from Envirem straightened up the fence along the first parking area, scraped the w**ds away from the base of the planter, w**d whacked around the basketball courts, and delivered mulch, the latter put to use by biology students from the Ecology Learning Center who planted two more sections of fence.

Do you have a little time or resources to donate to upgrading the Field of Dreams? Contact the town office!

(Note: All sections of fence along the road have now been spoken for and will be planted over the next two weeks)
