Sullivan County Conservation District

Sullivan County Conservation District We conserve natural resources, support local agricultural and promote place-based education for the people of Sullivan County.

Welcome to the Sullivan County Conservation District. A branch of county government, the SCCD is a non-regulatory public agency started in 1946 under New Hampshire RSA, Chapter 432. Our purpose is to help the people and organizations of Sullivan County with their natural resource needs (soil, water, plants, etc.) We are one of more than 3,000 Conservation Districts throughout the United States tha

t work with landowners and municipalities, on a voluntary basis, to maintain and conserve natural resources. District Manager Lionel Chute administers SCCD programs and projects under the direction of a Board of Supervisors comprised of Sullivan County landowners. The SCCD also partners with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to help address natural resource concerns and opportunities on working farms and forests. Monthly meetings are held on the first Friday of each month at 2 PM in the Ahern Building located in Unity (unless otherwise noted) and are open to the public.

And here are the photos from the second session of the Agriforestry Workshop! Dancing Bear Farm is one of our Climate Resilience Grant recipients for 2026, and Julia covered important topics such as edible windbreaks and silvopasture by showcasing her grant project. It was a great experience to see these types of land management practices in action. Thank you, Lionel and Julia, for sharing your expertise and hosting such an engaging session. Thank you to our wonderful attendees as well!🌳🐮🐐🐴

Wow, what a fantastic School to Farm Day we had this year! With nearly 300 fourth grade students and teachers from across the county, as well as numerous presenters and many animal companions, the Public Cidery and Ego Ag Center were definitely hoppin'. 🐰

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to ensure that this year's event was a success - UNH Cooperative Extension- Sullivan County, New Hampshire Agriculture in the Classroom, and Sullivan County NH Farm Bureau - as well as to our wonderful presenters for your shared commitment to educating youth on local agricultural heritage and practices. We couldn't have pulled off another great year without each and every one of you. 🚜👩‍🌾

The first session of the Agriforestry Workshop was a hit! 🌱

Thanks to Lionel's expertise, we learned about riparian buffers, forest farming, and responsible land care. It was amazing to see such strong interest and excitement, especially as everyone received free tree seedlings to continue practices at home. 🌳
Thank you to all who attended!

Stay tuned for photos from the second session at Dancing Bear Farm. 😁

We had quite the spectacular showing from the tulip garden this spring! While the tulip season is coming to an end, we just wanted to take a moment to appreciate the beauty these blossoms brought to the County Complex. 🌷💐

Earlier this month, we had the phenomenal opportunity to present on our Food Processing Hub Project at the NH Food Alliance. Made possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture 's Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure grant program as well as a Northern Borders Regional Commission Catalyst grant, we are establishing the County's first and only shared-use, fully licensed, commercial-grade kitchen located right at the County Complex in Unity!

We are so excited to see this project progressing, and looking forward to launching with the Nut Processing (Yellowbud hickory nuts and black walnuts) capabilities in the fall. We will be fully operational by next spring! ⭐

Looking to flash freeze, freeze-dry, or dehydrate your produce? Well, look no further than the Sullivan County Food Processing Hub - coming to you soon! 😁

Thank you to all the amazing organizations that made this event happen - we would not be here without your support. Also a huge thank you to Katie Hall Photography for the amazing photos. 📸
