Auditor Fitzpatrick identifies several areas in which officials in the City of Elsberry can improve governmental operations

An audit report released today by Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick has found several areas in which officials in the City of Elsberry can make improvements to how their government operates. The audit, which was requested by a petition signed by 299 residents, gives the municipality a "fair" rating while identifying areas of improvement that are necessary for how the city manages utility rates and city funds.

🚨 A giant message painted across a rural Missouri water tower is getting attention from the Ozarks to the banks of the Mississippi River.

The message reads:

"YOU CAN'T DRINK DATA."

Standing above rolling farmland, river valleys, cornfields, cattle pastures, and small towns, the tower has become the center of a growing conversation about Missouri's future and the resources that have supported generations of Missourians. πŸŒ½πŸšœπŸ’§

As large-scale data centers continue expanding across the Midwest, supporters point to new jobs, investment, and economic growth. Others argue that Missouri's farmland, rivers, groundwater, and rural communities deserve careful consideration before major development projects move forward.

Photos of the tower overlooking the countryside have spread quickly online, sparking debate across the Show-Me State.

Some residents immediately agreed with the message.

Others reportedly responded with:

"Okay... but who's generating all that electricity?" 😭

Meanwhile somewhere nearby, a barge is moving down the Missouri River, a farmer is checking the weather radar for the third time today, and somebody is explaining why a town with 800 people still has the best barbecue in the state. πŸ’€

Many Missourians say the issue isn't really about being for or against technology.

It's about finding the right balance between economic development and protecting the land, water, agriculture, and communities that make Missouri what it is.

πŸ“ Rural Missouri

What do you think?

Should Missouri prioritize protecting its water resources and agricultural land, or welcome more large-scale data center development and investment?
